Update from the business journal

Guy Fieri highlights Charlotte restaurants on Food Network's 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' - Charlotte Business Journal

Charlotte shines on high-octane episode of 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives'

Friday night marked the first airing of an episode of Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives show featuring several Charlotte eateries on the Food Network — and there may be more appearances for local restaurants yet to come.

The latest episode, "Racing Through Charlotte," put Pinky's Westside Grill, Pit Road Bar & Grill and The Tin Kitchen, a local food truck, in the spotlight.

The episode begins at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where celebrity chef and show host Fieri meets up with NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer before heading over to Pinky's — and there, speedway chief Marcus Smith was waiting to sink his teeth into a burger.

"We love Pinky's," Smith said on the show. "And I mean, this burger is unbelievable."

Fieri highlighted chef Greg Auten's ties to The Penguin Drive-In, a once iconic eatery in Charlotte that appeared on the show about eight years ago. That restaurant has since closed. ( Read the latest about what's to become of that Plaza-Midwood site here.)

Continuing on their race-themed jaunt, Fieri and Bowyer next turned up at Victory Lane Karting, an indoor go-kart track where the pair tried a Concord Sandwich — a ciabatta bun stuffed with fire-kissed, marinated beef filet, fig preserves and bleu cheese — and a Hot Lap Sandwich.

And finally, back to the speedway, where they encountered The Tin Kitchen and its funky mix of flavors served up on sliders and tacos.

If you (like this writer) forgot to set the DVR to record the show, you can see it on Food Network's website here— and you can find some of the recipes featured in the episode here. It is set to re-air on Monday at 9 p.m. and again at midnight, and then on Saturday at 3 p.m.

We may soon catch another glimpse of the Queen City on the Food Network.

Back in March, when the footage for Friday's episode was filmed, Fieri was spotted at a number of other restaurants in the area. At least one — Intermezzo Cafe — confirmed the presence of camera crews via a photo posted on social media. Others, including Dilworth's 300 East, were mysteriously closed during typically busy lunch shifts — as were Pinky's and Tin Kitchen while Fieri was cruising through town.

No word yet on when those and other local restaurants might be featured, nor on which show. In addition to DDD, Fieri also regularly hosts Guy's Grocery Games and Guy's Big Bites.

Was Pinky's on DDD previously? I was in there maybe a month ago and saw a sign on the wall about it so figured it had already been on, but maybe they just put that up after he was in and they found out they would eventually be on (according to google there were some articles in March about it).

GoPhils - one of my childhood friends works in SSI and was on DDD. I believe they give/make the sign when they film. She has like a spray-painted logo type thing on her wall, as well as other recognitions.

I really enjoy watching the places shown on Diners, Drive-Ins. It's having to stomach that tribble on meth, excessive bling wearing, Guy Fieri, sticking his beaters into all the food in the back rooms, that just irks me to no end.

"Hey look!" "I'm a "Bark Shark"

Nice to see Greg Auten doing well after all that drama with the Penguin.

They were there about a month ago. Greg's niece posted pictures of it all going down and they gave them the sign to build hype.
