A sign that the apartment vs. condo market may be starting to change?
"A Boston-based developer is planning to build the first new condo tower in uptown Charlotte since the recession, a 28-story building on Brevard Street.
RTG Holdings, headed by Greg Rudolph, is the developer working on the project, which would be constructed at the corner of Brevard and Fourth streets, on the same block as the Hyatt Place hotel and Skye condo building.
The proposed building, called 1 Brevard, would feature ground-floor retail fronting Brevard Street and a section of Fourth Street as well as amenity decks on the building’s seventh story and rooftop."
Keeping my fingers crossed for a really nicely designed building here. Charlotte has some pretty awesome buildings but also has some newer apt towers that are quite dull and boring.

The recent buildings next to Bearden park are not going to age gracefully, IMO.
They're quite blah as it is.
Charlotte's market can only absorb a large condo tower every so often. It was a bit of a chess game in 2003-2007 as projects were announced, how the sales phases would overlap with each other.
Still can't ascertain where all these new condo/apt residents are finding work. Or are they just trading-in to be close to uptown?
In September, 2010 there were 534,980 people working in Mecklenburg County. In September, 2014 that number was 612,918. Thats a gain of 77,938 jobs.
Even looking at the pre-recession numbers there's been lots of job growth, from around 572,000 jobs to 612,918. Thats a gain of about 41,000.
Some of those new jobs have been created Uptown. No doubt some people who have moved here have chosen to live Uptown, even though they may not work Uptown. And no doubt some people have relocated within Charlotte.

It's really a lifestyle choice, many people are choosing to live Uptown or close by no matter where they work. Center City is centrally located to most employment centers & has or will have mass transit options of some sort. This trend is likely to continue as Center City adds amenities needed to truly create a live, work, play area.
Excuse me for being an optimist. Since everyone wants to leave NY and move to Charlotte, I didn't think it was unreasonable to ask why we can't build a single condo, while they build forests of mega tall ones. One developer, Related, is building this entire new city with several buildings over 1,000, and it's being built over the tracks for New Jersey Transit. That's chutzpah. We need NY chutzpah to dream big apparently.
I love architecture but those buildings are hideous! I hope Charlotte never does anything like that. Oops, sorry. I fed him...
I think Charlotte is doing all it can do as far as new development. We have 8 high rise Apartments and condos under construction and plan. About 56 project between uptown and Southend. There is no way Charlotte can keep up with New York City.
New York remains the nation's most populous city. It gained about 53,000 people during the year ending July 1, 2014.
What can't New York City have as many towers under construction then Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. 298 currently under construction compared to NYC's 153
