Default Wow, Charlotte seems like a place for me

Ok ive been doing lots of online research on numerous websites and I really think Charlotte has what I need, however if im wrong please correct me. Heres a little about me....25 yrs old, originally from East L.A. (Ca), Married w/ one kid, currently in the military (not for much longer), aviation mechanic. Now ive been planning on moving to Raleigh for a few years now however a friend recently told me about Charlotte and when I looked into it, I couldnt believe it. I mean for starters the real estate is so CHEAP! There are 1800+ sq ft homes with 1/4 acre selling for 130K. Now am I missing something or is that just insanely low?? I know someone will probably say that its in a "bad" area but i've lived really bad areas my entire life, is it really as bad as LA, NYC, or Chicago?? On top of that there seems like there is alot to do down there. Me and my wife are both young so we still enjoy nightlife and going out with friends and Charlotte seems to have a pretty good scene. There also seems to be a pretty big airport so I would imagine finding a job shouldnt be too difficult. Im just looking for any kind of insight in case im seeing things all wrong here, because right now it seems like the only bad things about Charlotte is property tax rates, traffic, and crime. Wacha guys think????

Well USAir has a major hub here. I have a friend whose husband works there at one point it seemed all doom and gloom but over the last year it seems to have picked up. Yes there are many neighborhoods like you describe. The trick is to find your home. I am 30 and have 2 kids life is good here for me. We too like to go out. We are lucky though have family to babysit. We rarely go downtown as everything we need seems to be pretty local.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Yeah it sounds like a good place. Ive been looking at alot of realty websites and it seems like there are some good options for buying houses. I just have to find a good realtor and a decent area. So how much would I pay for property taxes on a 140K home???

Hey there,
We also relocated in 1998 -- from NY with our two sons for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. Now 8 years (and one daughter) later I can't even imagine going back! Best of luck in your search, and let me know if I can help you in any way (ditto the "cough cough" from CharlotteAgent)
