This whole toll lane fiasco really upsets me. Spent today driving to north central NC on I85 and I40. Great muti lane roads and never a toll. Traffic was much less than on I77 north of Exit 25. I have only been here 6+ yrs but comparing our roads to the Triangle, we are really getting the SCREWS put to us.

To be specific, they have a toll road that was not an existing interstate highway but rather a state road that was built as a toll road in the first place. The interstate highways in the Triangle area, 85 and 40 have at least 3 lanes through the major population zones if not 4. Heck 40 through Greensboro has 3 lanes even up near Asheville. I believe that's what accounts for a good amount of anger and frustration on the subject.

- New I-77 lanes from Uptown to Mooresville will be tolled
- US 74/Monroe Bypass will be tolled
- New lanes down the median of US 74/Independence will be tolled
- 485 in South Charlotte will have a toll lane
- The $1B widening of 77 from Uptown to the SC border will add two extra lanes on each side that will both be tolled
- Garden Parkway in Gaston County (if it's ever built) will be tolled
The very last widening happens on 85 and 40
