Default where are the DMV's??

Moved here from Fishkill NY- House unseen, came down on a shoestring,a wish and a prayer, We did check the weather first, but the main reason we came is because the winters are not as long as they are up North. We new we had to get new license also, but the wait is so very long. We tried Mooresville and Statesville?? Someone told our son that there was a motor vehicle where you didn't have to wait as long. Some place towards charlotte or Huntersville. If anyone knows of such a place could you let me know??

you could make an appointment and avoid the wait. I usually go to Mocksville for my renewals and have never had to wait! The DMV is on hwy 801N.

There's one on Route 74 where I got my license plates and driver's license test. It's a bit of a haul, but it was the closest on for me living in Waxhaw.

If you plan on registering your car on the same day I would map out the closest tag office to the License office they are not in the same building.

not sure what part of the area you are in, but you can get one stop shopping at the location on Brookshire Blvd in NW Charlotte.

6016 Brookshire Boulevard, 28216

(704) 392-3266 or (704) 392-3267

as stated above, you can avoid wait times by making an appointment

hope this helps

I went to the one in the University Area off North Tryon St. next to IHOP and I didn't have to wait at all.

I was thinking that one and then there was one in East Charlotte/Idlewild area where if you hit it early enough, you can get through pretty quickly.

I do agree that making an appointment is always the best way to go.

NCDOT Division of Motor Vehicles: Office Locations

you can do a search for license offices and vehicle registration offices.

The Entertainer was correct... the Brookshire Blvd. office will offer both license and vehicle registration at the same place.

However all of the offices can get pretty busy toward the end of the month (when people's registrations are due.)

BTW, I've had very good luck at the Lincolnton office, which is quite a haul from Cornelius. But of the four or five times I've been there (for my son's learner's permit, provisional license, full license and my own license renewal,) I've only had to wait a *max* of 20 minutes. They were very helpful as well... my son had a state-issued ID when he was 9. We didn't realize it had to be surrendered for him to get his learner's permit. The officer in Lincolnton was able to phone down to Charlotte to set up a "first appointment of the morning" for us at the Brookshire office. And everything worked out great! He tested and passed at the Lincolnton office and received his learner's permit at the Brookshire office when we surrendered the ID.

Something I just noted (but couldn't believe) from the DMV website...

All the offices are Monday thru Friday only!

I've never heard of such a thing. No wonder the lines are so long!
