Buying a home in a particular neighborhood does not guarantee a school district. Re-zoning does happen more often than not in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
ALL counties have bad schools and ALL counties have good schools. Personal preference!
Agree w/ 7 oh 4. Plus, what a person is looking for is very subjective - some may want a strong athletics program or may be looking for a new school building . . . also - how about crowding . . . what about reputation of principal for interacting well w/ parents and their concerns . . . any special needs programs . . . just lots of variables that go into what makes any one particular school "the right one" for a family.
Parts of Charlotte and several of its surrounding counties can all claim title of "best reputation" - basically no one place is best. There are good schools to be found in Charlotte and good schools to be found in some parts of Cabarrus County, parts of Union County, parts of Gaston County, parts of Lincoln county and parts of York County, SC. There is basically no one school system to avoid - just parts of all of them.
As far as Charlotte goes, you will find good schools scattered all over the county, so the best thing to do is find out where you will be working and try to locate what schools closest to your employment are good so you can look to live closet to where you work.
Depending on which end of Charlotte you will be working in, you could look at that ends neighborhing county for good schools near by.
As always, Loves is correct
You will find countless posts on this site regarding the research and selection of "good" schools but the most important thing to remember (again posted earlier) is that a good school is entirely subjective. To find the right fit for your kids and family it is imperative that you visit each school that you are considering. Each school has a very different vibe depending on not only their demographic, but also the individual principal and staff. And as far as judging a school based on their standardized test scores: I, again, don't recommend doing this. Obviously when you are making a quick move to the area (like we did....14 days total) you need something. If you are taking your time....then do it right and go visit the school. Last year, because of being pressed for time, we chose a house (granted I LOVE the house and neighborhood) based on where we wanted our kids to go to school and we based that selection on test scores. Needless to say, our middle schooler is now in private school...not because the school isn't great on paper...just not for us. My kids were in one elementary school when we first moved here because there wasn't room in our neighborhood elementary (yes, that happens) and we were very unhappy with that school. Reluctantly, I agreed to let them attend the neighborhood school this year instead of sending them to private too and I couldn't be happier with the little school they ended up in this year. Out of all of the schools we've ever attended, public or private, I'm the most happy with this principal and with our teacher.
In short, to determine which school is best for your family....visit them; talk to the staff and look over the curriculum. You'll find that every school is different. Good luck.
Primarily serves only 1 neighborhood. Highland Creek.
When finished, Highland Creek is suppose to be the largest neighborhood in NC with over 5,000 homes. Also in the Highland Creek area is the brand new (this year) Mallard Creek High School.
Can you advise school system with best reputation and ones to avoid in Charlotte. I have two kids elementary age at the moment.
Thanks!
