Moving to Charlotte next week. I have a cell phone, dh has cell phone, dd has cell phone, do I really need a house phone? Is it possible to get DSL without a housephone?

We'll be in zip 28273 - any suggestions on DSL?

Thanks in advance!

You can get High Speed (Road Runner) thru Time Warner Cable.

I have not had a house phone in 3-4 years.

You are right. Who needs one?

Word of advice, VERIZON generally has the best service/reception in the Charlotte area. Others might not agree, But I have had them for years and years and years and have NEVER had an issue with Verizon. Some people do not like their customer service, who cares about that, I wand good service/coverage. How often do you call customer service?

I hadn't had a house phone since buying my house in June. However, after my fiance was hospitalized, I am probably going to get a no frills landline for emergencies as they are much more reliable.

I have not use a land line in 7 year with no need for it.

I however had to run in situations I needed to Fax documents and there is a Kinkos up the road or you can use efax.com for that.

I have a house phone for DSL and home alarm. I never talk on it and do not give the number out to anyone. I cannot stand the sound of a ringing house phone.

It's my understanding that 911 Emergency Service is active regardless if you have traditional telephone service or not. You won't be able to dial anything but 911. Plug a telephone into the modular wall socket and see if you get a dial tone.

That is true in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

I think Groove1 lives in Fort Mill. Should still work the same way. Hopefully!

Not true in York County. No dial tone. Tried all my outlets.

Maybe it's just a NC service.
