Local Donation/Charity Question...
Hi Folks,
Hubby and I have a new construction home with BRAND NEW carpet in the living/dining.
We're thinking to make this area hardwood, but feel like CRAP about potentially having to throw away the brand new carpet.
Does anyone know of a place that might accept/want it for donation? Is that allowed? Does anyone have experience doing this?
Thanks in advance!

Habitat ReStores are retail outlets where quality used and surplus building materials are sold at a fraction of normal prices. Proceeds from ReStores help local affiliates fund the construction of Habitat houses within the community. Many affiliates across the United States and Canada operate successful ReStores—some of which raise enough funds to build an additional 10 or more houses per year.
Materials sold by Habitat ReStores are usually donated from building supply stores, contractors, demolition crews or from individuals who wish to show their support for Habitat. In addition to raising funds, ReStores help the environment by rechanneling good, usable materials into use.

Happy to help, but even happier that there are people like you who are socially responsible! Thanks to you, somebody less fortunate can use something brand new!

When I closed on my home last January, I had hard wood flooring put in right away. The only problem with your plan is that the contractor which is going to remove the carpeting to put in the flooring is going to come in and tear it out. I don't think they will remove it in one piece ( I know mine didn't). I probably had about 25 seperate pieces of carpet to dispose of. Removing it all in one piece would be very time consuming for your installers and time = $$$$.

Actually, folks, I am going to do the install and removal myself (well, Hubby and me ) and we plan to do EVERYTHING possible to pick up the carpet in one (or two) remnant pieces.
On a side note, I wonder if you TELL the contractor you want to donate the remnant, if they'd be a little more careful

Habitat does have a "deconstruction" team! And i believe you can ask them to come pick things up.

The Goodwill Store will accept your rug they are on catawba avenue Cornelus NC-- If on 77 going south you would get off at exit 28, make a right onto catawba ave, it would be on your right about a quater of a mile down the street.
