They are awesome. The Penguin serves up the best. The breading is so good.

Yes fried pickles are delicious! They are usually served with ranch dressing.

Great thread, thanks, good to share with DH. I'm hesitant to relay it b/c we just barely got a place this Sunday, but Eddie's Place, off of Sharon Amity Rd., hit the spot for us. Very flavorful and filling. They have an all day breakfast menu too.

Chicken Box Cafe (corner of N. Tryon St & Craighead Rd near NODA) They have a commercial on television.

They have very good chicken & sides & desserts (banana pudding, red velvet cake, sweet potato pie, etc)

I agree with a few other posters-Lupie's and the Penguin are two great spots! If you're looking for a very unique atmosphere, I'd stick w/the Penguin.

Fair warning about the Penguin: It's small and sometimes smoky, but worth it.

My first experience with fried pickles was here in N.C. at penguin, YUM!
Then I ordered them at quaker steak & lube. Not all fried pickles are created equal, or is it just me? I think groove is right, it's the breading.

I've had fried pickles all over the Carolinas; some places fry spears which is no good. My first fried pickles were also at the penguin; they are the best.

Couldn't get in the Penguin Saturday at 2pm. Ended up going to index which is a great place itself.
