Hopefully UC finally gets a Publix. Being next to the light rail station should give it plenty of foot traffic, not to mention the college students in the area.
This morning WSOC announced a mystery grocery store that has been proposed for Kannapolis.

Make no mistake about it, there will be plenty to speculate about. Publix is looking for locations. Lidl is looking for locations. Wegmans might be looking as well. Aldi may be adding more locations before Lidl opens.

Wegman's is great for the growing number of us who are international foodies, yet do not cook. You can get gourmet prepared meals at Wegman's that taste like it was from a four star elite restaurant. Where else can I get prepared Moroccan or Ethiopian food? It's offering go far beyond the pedestrian fare most grocers provide.

Most new Publix stores that have opened recently are either 45,600 or 49,098 square feet in size and have pharmacy drive through. Taking the master plan of University City Gateway into consideration, it is possible to see a Publix similar to store 1453 (Shops at Southline, 2222 South Boulevard, Charlotte, North Carolina 28203-5006).

The current grocery options in Kannapolis are hypermarkets SuperTarget and Walmart Supercenter, supermarket Food Lion, and discount grocer Aldi. Bi-Lo exited in 2014, and Winn-Dixie exited in 2005.

I will agree Publix is looking for additional locations, especially in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, and Union counties. Kannapolis is a city Publix has been speculated to have interest in.

My first thought was Publix, but without a size it wasn't possible to narrow it down, reliably.

Kannapolis needs additional and better supermarket options. Publix, Harris Teeter, Ingle's, and Walmart Neighborhood Market would be those options.

I tried searching on WSOC-TV's website for the report without success.

If you are in Charlotte, at the Ethiopian and Moroccan restaurants in the city.

It was just read with a still store of a drawing of the store as a shape, without a front view.

Was there a specific location in Kannapolis in mind?
