To be honest, Richmond & Raleigh are pushing it from their distribution center in east jabip, Pennsylvania. I think that they're going to have to see how things go in Virginia & Raleigh. If Raleigh is a non-stop mobscene, the stores in the rest of the Triangle will only take so much of the load. I could see them putting another distribution center somewhere in an equally remote area of Virginia to handle Virginia & North Carolina with, maybe, stores in Myrtle Beach & Charleston, as well as Greenville & Spartanburg in SC. I don't see see them going further south for the foreseeable future. I think that their audience gets too diluted beyond those points.
Wegmans bakery items and the meat department (Kobe beef anyone?). The prices and the prepared food. I miss the deli. I can't find another deli like the one they have around. Publix is good but it no way does it compare.

Have you made a trip to a big Ingles? The closest to you is probably the Dallas store. No one store will get you everything, but I usually go between Ingles & Aldi.

I wonder if the refreshing new Food Lion renovations are having an impact. I have seen several ad campaigns, but have not yet visited any of the stores in the Charlotte region. And any long term plans Ahold may bring to the table after the merger with Delhaize have not yet been realized. Their Giant stores are successful in both divisions, so perhaps part of that format could be implemented at Food Lion.

Aside from aesthetic changes in decor, fixtures and equipment, I hear it is business as usual at Food Lion. If Food Lion continues to lag behind Giant-Carlisle, Giant-Landover, Hannaford, Martin's and Stop & Shop, the Ahold side needs to have a serious discussion with the Delhaize side why Food Lion continues to fail and what needs to be done to get the brand on a standard of operational excellence.

Publix & Teeter are both open in Gastonia. You'd think that they would be taking some of the pressure off of Aldi. I went in there today & you would have thought that a Nor'easter was coming. It's always been a madhouse on Saturdays, but it was Monday. 4 people were stocking as fast as they could & lots of shelf space was empty.

Aldi takes away business from supermarkets. Publix, Harris Teeter, and Walmart Neighborhood Market take away or are handed business from BI-LO and Food Lion.

I've shopped at Aldi since '93. They are preparing for Lidl & they're fine-tuning the stock. I can now get Amoroso rolls in Aldi.

The cashier asked me if I was able to find everything. He said that it's gotten so busy that they're having trouble keeping the shelves stocked. He said that Aldi is planning to add another store, but the company isn't saying where.

I've been impressed with Aldi as well when I've visited. They seem to be changing in all the right ways.

There's a thread on the Triangle forum about changes made to The Fresh Market ever since they sold out to the private equity firm Apollo Global Management.

I wonder if anyone here went into one of their remodeled stores, and how was it? Some of the posters didn't seem impressed by the new changes made to the stores.

I also read somewhere that Harris Teeter is changing their gas program to $50 gas cards for $45 + the $.03 discount at the pump, which means no fuel points for now
