Lidl released their first Weekly Ad - Lidl Weekly Ad - Jun 15 to Jun 21

Will be interesting to see how all that fits in the size stores they are building

No, across the street from that. I think the shopping center is called Bayshore Plaza or something like that. There is a drycleaner, Romanelli's, Garys Barbershop, etc. in that plaza. All those will stay.

That's an impressive ad for a 20k grocery store.

Wait, this building is going to be 40k? Is that bigger than usual for Lidl stores? I thought that'll be as small as your typical Aldi store.
Am I the only one that finds it weird that they would put the "Matthews" signage when that intersection is literally the line between all 3 of Matthews, Mint Hill and Charlotte?

Towns usually put signs at their borders or gateways.

Amazon acquiring Whole Foods Market is an interesting direction. Amazon will have stores, or it will acquire struggling retailers in specialized retail sectors.

Another angle would be Amazon reaching its peak.

This compliments the Amazon Prime portfolio. Amazon Prime customers are younger and wealthier than the average shopper, so they are carving out their niche. They aren't looking to be Walmart. This allows them to lock down their clientele when the shift to online food shopping expands and younger households become the main purchasing power in America. They will have physical stores and an delivery network to homes that will be best in class.

Amazon Prime customers average $69,900 in household income vs. $56,000 at Walmart and $66,800 at Target.

Buying Whole Foods (whose stock is depressed), allows them to scoop up distribution assets at the core of the Amazon network - large metros, in the most urban locations where young wealthy shoppers live.

The deal could mean lower prices at Whole Foods, upping the ante in Charlotte’s competitive grocery-store wars. The surprising deal, announced Friday, marks Seattle-based Amazon’s latest push into the grocery business. Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods has been struggling as competitors such as Publix and Matthews-based Harris Teeter increase their offerings of organic, gluten-free and other high-end products.
