I notice that Harris Teeter is building a Gas Station. From the sign, I think it will be branded as Harris Teeter. i.e. Harris Teeter Gas.

Is this something new for this chain?

Yes, it is. Harris Teeter Fuel should be expanding across more new and existing stores.

PRICES ARE DOWN AT BI-LO: Bi-Lo is now lowering prices in an attempt to rebrand themselves as a low price leader. Probably in response to competition from Aldi and Walmart Neighborhood Market in the low price segment. Bi-Lo has recently closed many underperforming stores and is struggling to maintain a foothold in the Charlotte market.

This low price strategy previously worked very well for Food Lion back in the 1980's, and was very successful as their core identity, known as LFPINC.

Whether Bi-Lo's modern day attempt will work remains to be seen. But I do like their campy new TV ad featuring store associates dancing around to the tune of Dolly Parton's "9 To 5."

Yes new for Harris Teeter, but adopted from Kroger.

Also regarding Harris Teeter, they are preparing to open their largest store ever near Pinehurst on January 12, measuring 78,200 square feet. Perhaps more such large stores are under consideration for future expansion. This new store will also feature a fuel center.

I can't believe that they're paying Charlotte ad rates for that commercial. I doubt that they have more stores left in the Charlotte market than Ingles has & Ingles doesn't advertise on TV in the market.

Who is that thing supposed to appeal to? Women prancing around wearing '70s hairdos/wigs. . .I didn't like those hairdos in the 70s. This must be a reaction to the Food Lion commercial that transitions the boomer couple from hippies to parents of grown kids.

They still have about 15 stores or so. They have the same exact commercial for Winn Dixie so don't think it really had anything to do with Food Lion.

Bi-lo is very shopper friendly regarding their customer policies, probably my 2nd favorite locate store behind Harris Teeter. I was really bummed when so many of them were sold to Publix.

Thanks. Maybe they deal with the same agency. I wonder if they think that boomers are going senile as a group.

Bi-Lo and Winn Dixie are now the same company. So makes sense they now use the same advertising and marketing strategy.
