WCNC has very comprehensive Eclipse coverage today. Morning news has been live from Charleston, Lake Murray, Columbia ball park, and Clemson. And the live traffic van traveling down I-77 for traffic reports. They will have a live special this afternoon, along with WBTV, WSOC, WYFF, and WSPA. But looks like WCNC has the most comprehensive coverage from watching the Charlotte and GSP stations this morning and they are doing an excellent job with their coverage. They also had Al Roker live from Charleston on the morning news this morning.

Comprehensive coverage on WCNC continues with live special now underway at 1pm. WBTV and WSOC-TV will have live coverage later after 2pm, as well as WYFF-4. Right now WYFF is running Days of our Lives. WHNS FOX Carolina channel 21 also has live coverage. Kudos to WCNC for excellent coverage across the Carolinas, as well as NBC reports from western states.
I stepped outside and watched the Eclipse from the front yard and then went back in the house and watched on TV. WCNC had the most extensive coverage from the most locations, but there was also good coverage on WBTV, WSOC, WJZY, WYFF, WSPA, and WHNS.
WCNC is conducting a telethon to raise funds for Hurricane Harvey flood victims in Texas. All funds raised go to the Red Cross. WYFF is also doing a telethon with the Red Cross in SC.
They had Nascar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. guest hosting the weather this morning with long time weatherman Larry Sprinkle. Perhaps he has a new job since he is retiring from the race track, but apparently he will be working with NBC covering the races at the network.
Also yesterday longtime NBC actress S. Epatha Merkerson was in Charlotte promoting a health event. She was on the NBC Law and Order shows and most recently Chicago Med. But ironically she appeared on the WBTV morning show on the CBS affiliate, and I am not sure whether she made it over to WCNC Charlotte Today as you may have expected. As usually they promote their own network affiliate shows, but I guess the appearance on WBTV was more about the health screening.
The Bozo Bus made its annual Halloween visit to the WCNC morning show today with Larry Sprinkle and his special friends. As usual he portrayed numerous comic characters and featured multiple costume changes.
I think the Bozo bus arrived a few months ago and Sarah French was driving it. What a ditz she is. It great to watch Shopshire giving her sideway looks when she goes off on her nightly giggle fest.
As mentioned in another thread, one of the original news anchors at the old Channel 36, now WCNC, Robert D. Raiford has passed away at the age of 89, after suffering a stroke in 2015. In addition to anchoring the "Action News 36," he also hosted a call in talk show "Call Raiford." Always outspoken and never afraid to speak his mind, he later became known as the curmudgeon and commentator on the John Boy and Billy Show on WRFX radio.
Question - who was the 2nd weekend WCNC meteorologist? I've noticed recently that John Wendel is doing all of the weekend reports but there used to be a second gentleman doing reports. What happened to him? (although I'm glad to see him gone.)
