Lake Norman area NC
My family is thinking of relocating to the Lake Norman area but with all the negative feedback, we are re-thinking our plans. The schools seem more advanced and strict than where we are and I was wondering if the children struggle or mostly enjoy the challenge. Is there help if needed? (my son currently gets services here). It seems behavior management is a major component of their education. We are looking at Woodland Heights Elementary or Lake Norman Elementary. Are community developments recommended for families or are you better off not committing to one development? And finally, is the traffic THAT bad on Brawley School Rd????
Coming from the city, curious how it compares. (But that is part of the reason for leaving our area-commuting is ridiculous). I appreciate all feedback.

Moderator cut: tos violation I moved here 10 years ago and until recently lived down Brawley School Rd. I can tell you that that road is pretty brutal in the mornings and late afternoon. There are plans to widen it but before and during, it can be trying. However depending on your schedules etc. The quality of the family life can be fantastic and well worth. We I left it was because my only child has gone to college and I wanted to start my own real estate company with equity from my house. Also, my daughter went through school in the Lake Norman area and we found it to be a good experience. She is not a gifted student and she did fine and is now a freshman soccer player WCU. There was nothing other than what a normal teenage girl would experience. As for real estate, it is a buyers market and I am sure you can find a nice home.

Good luck and if you want to talk.

We have been looking at Lake Norman, specifically The Point, for quite some time. Has the market there slowed down as well? We are not interested in waterfront, but like the lot sizes and amenities there, and also the school system. Due to the prices, however, we were re-thinking The Point, since there do seem to be lots of other neighborhoods without the club. How are the homes not in The Point selling? We would be in the 700,000 to 1,000,000 (tops) range.

lake norman, negative feedback? Wow, thats news to me!
Brawley isnt a pleasant drive but like previous posters have stated, it is going to be widened to 5 lanes (2 each way and a turn lane in the center) which will substantially ease traffic. You can get into a decent neighborhood near the schools where commuting will not really be a burden.
Traffic is an issue, it is everywhere in the nation unless you are in the sticks. It's part of life. It will be eased over time but until then its just gotta be dealt with. Its not like you are sitting for hours (unless there is a bad crash), just takes about twice as long to get from point A to B.

I did hear a lot of positive feedback about Lake Norman, but unfortunately there was some negative feedback as well-such as the post "The Honest Truth About Lake Norman". You're right about traffic being everywhere, but don't want to get into a "nightmare situation". When making a move, all things must be considered so we are weighing out each situation. All feedback is appreciated.

Who said Brawley School Road was the only street to live on at the lake? There are 100s of other options!!! I live in Cornelius, which is south of Mooresville and Davidson and is the more happening part of the lake and there are no traffic issues. IMO Cornelius has a lot of advantages over the former two and is more convenient to Charlotte and has easy access to the largest part of the lake.

They were talking about widening that road for years now! I'll believe it when I see it! I'm more inline with Carolina Guy's thinking!

They're developing up Perth (towards Troutman from Mooresville). You'd get the same Lake Norman Elem as people dealing with the Brawley traffic. The schools are very good.
Personally, I'd deal with Brawley, even out towards the Point... the traffic will eventually get better and the area is hard to beat.

I just returned from Lake Norman. They are in the process of moving the utility poles back from the roads. They are also cutting down the trees.
