Default Those Who Have Relocated - How do you like Charlotte?

I'm curious about those of you who have relocated to Charlotte from another state. How do you like it? Are you happy with your move? Which area did you move to? If you could have moved someplace else, where would it be? What areas do you suggest for those of us who are trying to escape the heat, high taxes, and hurricanes of South Floirda? Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm still keeping Charlotte on the backburner, and I live in South Florida too, so I'd love to read some opinions too.

There are many on the boards who have moved from Florida in the past few years.

I think one reason people like it here compared to FL is the lower property taxes and some jobs are better paying.

Best wishes on your decision.

Dawn

We moved here from S. FL 10 months ago, and we are happy with our decision to move. We are in Union County, and there are lots of Floridians here. Escaping the heat - yep it was very cold today, but it also gets pretty hot here in the summer. Property taxes are less here, but then you have the state income tax. You won't have to worry about hurricanes; therefore homeowner's insurance is much cheaper here. Your money goes further here in terms of buying a home. I can't really advise on moving someplace else, as this is the only place we considered. I suggest if you haven't already done so to take a trip here & do some exploring. We ended up buying a home here on our 4th visit, and only after doing extensive research.

We moved from NYC seven months ago. We live on the southeast side of Charlotte. I love it here, 15 year daughter is taking longer to adjust. My main reason for moving was a beautiful city with great weather and low taxes. Charlotte is very affordable and it has so many activities that are similar to NYC. I love museums, parks, great dining, plays, concerts, dancing and the ability to drive everywhere. The close proximity to entertainment was a must for me. So happy that I did not go to Raleigh, which was on the top of my list because my past employment had an office there. Also, Charlotte employment tend to pay well for some. If I had to live somewhere else, it would be the Bahamas--simply breathtaking.

Honestly, looking back I'm very fortunate I sold my house in NJ and moved to NC. Its worked out very well. Family is adjusted. I'm in sales and it was very difficult at first, but things are moving in the right direction business wise. The climate is great. Even though we are still in a severe drought, it will get better. Much more sunny days here than in the northeast. The sun is very underrated IMO....

We moved here from Orange County less than two months ago. I think Charlotte is a perfectly lovely city and for the most part people have been very nice and helpful. We miss California and hope to move back in the next few years but Charlotte isn't a bad substitute. We did have to spend a ton of money on coats and warmer clothing.

Default Just moved from Broward county

And love it.....we decided to move out of S Fla after 33 years, b/c taxes, ins, and the people are not nice any more. it is refreshing to actually have people say hello to you and be courteous. Also, for example, the houses we are looking at (we have rented for 6 mo.) for $500k would be over $1million in Fla. ot to mention the abundance of outdoor and entertainment options.
So, needless to say, we love it.
