Anyone who wants to live in a nice neighborhood, then go do the hard work to get a good relevant education and then a job to pay for the nice home. Neighborhoods in Charlotte have no problem accepting people who do this no matter what race they might be.
A relevant education? By this, you mean a firm liberal arts education, followed by specialization at the graduate level, right?
Why would you find that? I've been visiting my dad and stepmom for a week. I've found all of the people here to be easy going and tolerant.
Maybe you run with a different crowd than my 70s 80s parents. The people I've met want dialogue and change.
I'm impressed with Charlotte.
Where did I say people were intolerant and not easy going?
I find Charlotte extremely tolerant and easy going. I was responding to the OP that wants to change things and I pointed out that there's no need to change.
I also said I will always talk to people in all walks of life but I do tend to socialize with people that I have most in common with.
What a surprise...the highest crime rates among the most "diverse" neighborhoods.
Maybe if they'd stop asking for reparations from slavery, quit making kids they can't support, stop tearing down neighborhoods, and quit leaching all my tax dollars then i'd be more open to "diversity". Until then i'll take my chances with my people thank you very much.
Just as one has the right to mix with folks of different cultures, one has the equal right to remain with people of the same type.
Though it drives liberals crazy, neither approach is better or worse.
Having lived all over the world, I greatly prefer to live around folks with my culture, values, and expectations. Much more comfortable hanging with people like me. I believe where you live should be a comfort zone, not a social experiment.
As a result not interested in this aspect of diversity.
lmao, I think the word diversity brings out the stormfront crowd on CD. This thread is a mess.
You know it. It must be a scary thought and nightmare for many people that associate the word diverse with lower living, education standards, etc. Keep "those" people away from my pompous and privileged lifestyle.
The most convenient out is to blame poor Black people or poor people of Color.
Lol, Reparations? Hell, how about start with equal treatment, that remedy a majority of the disparities.
If not already, this thread will get bombarded by the right-wing talking heads who don't believe, refuse to believe or just flat-out deny the term "privilege".
Whenever my wife and I have our 'relocation discussions', Charlotte has ALWAYS ranked high as a possible destination, and that hasn't changed with the passage of time
It is a beautiful city, and our interactions with folks there whenever we've visited has always been pleasant
That being said, I'm not surprised by some of the responses on this thread...people love to jack out their jaws, ball up their fists, and woof like rabid dogs from behind their computers, but probably have the collective guts of a swarm of sand fleas when it comes to actually saying stuff to the faces of the actual people they're 'woofing' at/about
As a black man, I'm sorry, but I really don't have time to play the 'hate whitey!' game...it's counterproductive, stupid, and utterly meaningless in the grand scheme of things...I have no problem whatsoever NOT being in a majority black neighborhood
I relish the exposure to the cultures and beliefs of other races and creeds, and often find my interactions with them fulfilling and educational...I'm not gonna sit in a corner and suck my thumb and tell my wife 'woe is us!' because the people around us don't all LOOK like us
Unfortunately, often times, the path to said interactions is strewn with folk who suffer some form of internet-fueled erectile dysfunction, and can only be soothed by a peculiar form of internet Cialis, that comes in the form of 'ooooh! Black people! Thuggish black people! Black baby-mamas! Black prison population! Lock up your valuables! There goes the neighborhood! AAAAIIIIIGGGHHH!!! '
My preferred form of response to these folks is usually short, blunt and to the point, to wit: 'Take all your tired sing-song and stereotypes, have a popsicle, then go somewhere and shut the preferred 4-letter term for the sex act up'...because you're not going to stop me and mine from living HOW we want to, WHERE we want to, as long as we are good neighbors, friends and citizens, and respect the lives and such of others around us
Diversity seems to be another one of those chameleonic words that have an ever-shifting meaning...my take on it, and trust me, it's not the end-all, is that it means people of differing hues, religions, ethnicities, etc, living in proximity of each other and without fear...
I applaud our young OP for having the courage and curiosity to pose the diversity question, and I would hope that he isn't disheartened by any negativity he may have encountered, and continues to try and expand his horizons...the world may not be such a scary place after all
