Hello,

I've posed a few threads on this site in regards to moving to NC/SC. What are some towns within an hour of Charlotte that have rolling farmlands, lakes, woods, scenic, but within 15-20 of a town with basic amenities such as a hospital, Walmart, etc? Also, low crime rate.

Thanks!

Lincolnton and Kings Mountain come to mind.

The recommendations mentioned are ok but best 'foothills' with rolling farmland are in northern counties of this state, the foothills are more pronounce.

My recommendation far as farm and lakes is town of Bethlehem NC in Alexander County its by Lake Hickory, also in same county check out Taylorsville,
Its probably my favorite area for the beauty of the foothills.

My other recommendations far as cities would be Hickory, Lenoir and Morganton. Counties in reference are Catawba, Burke and Caldwell. Wilkes County and Yadkin might also find some farms but I cant think of the moment of lakes, just some nearby rivers.

Note to the OP: Bethlehem, Morganton, Lenoir, Taylorsville, Wilkes County are all over an hour from Charlotte.

Western Rowan County has some small, rolling hills. Not to far from Charlotte.

There are several possibilities to answer what you want. You know that your husband's job would be in Charlotte. You keep specifying proximity to a hospital. I assume that that would be for a job for yourself. Just be aware that the more options you have, the sooner you'll find a job. We have had posts from medical people who assumed that they could easily get a job who were baffled that it wasn't very easy to get a job in this area.

Based on your other threads I think that you're studying maps. Check the radius to see what gives you the maximum possibilities within your commuting maximum distance.

Outisde of Hickory possibly. Its close/a little over an hour but Hickory itself is a nice little smaller city with even smaller towns of Conover, Granite Falls, and Lenoir around it and possibly find something out that way.

That is a good recommendation or in that direction along Hwy 49 up towards Badin Lake, OP could just take Hwy 49 to Charlotte from towns like Misenheimer or Richwood.
Or use hwy 24 excplore outskirts of Albermarle with nearby Lake Tillery.

I have bad habit of using interstates, that I forget the Uwharrie Mountains are really like Piedmont foothills with rolling farm lands.

That is why I reccomended outside of Hickory also was ease of access to Charlotte/Gastonia. 321 will take you to Gastonia, 16 will bring you right into 277, and 40 will bring you into Statesville where you can hit 77 south.
