Clovers are much less efficient. Especially for busy interchanges. They're really only decent in rural areas with low traffic counts.

I use the diamond at Mallard Creek every day. I like it. I just wish they would put in "no right turn on red" signs at the exit ramps.

Until you get used to it seems more like a chicane than an efficiency feature. I actually like the traffic circles - there were a few on Long Island's east-end that worked great. As long as everyone knows how they work, they're easy to navigate. Now New Jersey's "jug-handle" turn-lanes....they're not fun.

Love them; someone actually thought out something before building. What a concept!

I hated NJ's Jug Handles!

The reason they use the diamond there instead of a clover or something else, is space.

The diamond could be built without the state having to condemn and purchase some very expensive property at that completely developed intersection. A cloverleaf would have taken a very large amount of land in comparison.

It is a prime example of bad planning. I am pretty sure that it was all zoned by Mecklenburg county before Cornelius had zoning authority and the county commission pretty much handled zoning like the wild west. Same issue at Sam Furr Rd. up there. Thankfully in 1996, the towns got control of it.
