Default Summer Camps-5 Yr Old

Can anyone recommend a summer camp (2-4 weeks) for a 5 year old, preferably sports related.

are you looking for day or overnight program?

Charlotte Parent Magazine puts out a great issue of summer camps every spring. Should be coming out in the next few months. Check their website - Parenting advice, education updates, health news, local events for families from Charlotte Parent

Also try the websites of local private schools (Providence Day, Latin, etc.) colleges (UNCC, Wingate, Queens), and semi-pro sports teams. The k-12 schools (Prov. Day especially) run loads of camps for all ages, sports included. Their programs are long-running and very reputable.

All the ones I mentioned should be local and day-camp only. You may have a little trouble finding sport-specific ones for his age group, but I think Providence Day has a couple. They're mostly 1-week camps though.
Providence Day School*-*Summer programs / Athletics

The other great option I forgot to mention are YMCA camps. Lots of the Y's run them, so look into the branches in your area. This should have them listed:
YMCA of Greater Charlotte

The only one I know about first hand is Camp Eagle Rock at the Siskey/Hemby branch in S Charlotte. I had a few friends who were counselors there during high school and college. They really enjoyed it and it's a great "campy" camp program (think arts and crafts, group games, devotions, team sports, etc.). Transportation is provided from certain drop-off points and the camp runs in weekly sessions throughout the summer. There are some specialty camps within the normal schedule, but I think you have to be 6 to participate in most of them.

And keep an eye out for the Charlotte Parent summer camp mag - it's by far the best resource.

Good luck!

My daughter went to Providence Day summer camp last year, loved it. They have tons of programs and I'm sure you could fill up 2-4 weeks of camp easily with the various offerings, lots of sports camps (DD did Tennis/swimming), he could do the same one more than one week, or try different ones each week. Most of them are half day camps, so there could be one camp in the am and one in the afternoon as well.
Have fun!

Smile summer camps

look at the Matthews Community Center too.

Go to Town of Matthews

They have a lot of Summer Camps and they are pretty reasonable in price too.

Camps may not be posted till around February though.

Just a little word of advice, Camps around Charlotte fill up quickly! If you think it is something that your child will enjoy don't wait too long or there will not be a space.
I am speaking from experience..

Great post! I need a camp for my 6 year old in August. Probably near Union County. Also I am still looking for preschool for my 4 year old. Anybody has experience with Chesterbrook Acadamy on Rea Rd/Ballantyne?

Thanks
