You can tell the transplants that have been here over 20 years. The parents say "going true da Mwal" and their kids say "goin' to thuu Mawl". Translation: "going to the mall"

It's much easier if we told you where NOT to find those transplants. Here goes.....Gaston County (and that's rapidly changing daily).

There's a lot of transplants in Gaston. You may not pick up on the ones from Philadelphia & South Jersey, though, because the accents blend in, for the most part.

Just as many as where? As mentioned previously, the Lake Norman area, western Union County and Ballantyne are probably the transplant "capitals," but they/we are everywhere in the CLT metro including Fort Mill. The least amount before getting too far out would probably be in Gaston County.

Keep in mind that in the 60s & 70s Gaston & the 2 cities in Cleveland County were inundated with the mill workers who followed their jobs from Philadelphia. I run into transplants frequently but it's more of a mix of South Jersey, Philadelphia, & Midwesterners with a few New Englanders & people from upstate NY & other locations in Pennsylvania.

It's easy to spot the transplants. Just look for all the indicators.
