Looking in Charlotte area for a home under 275K. I primarily work from home so commute isn't too big of deal (although I do come in once a week). I have no kids so schools aren't that important. My criteria:

-Highly prefer brick ranches (a little vinyl on the house is okay) 1500-2200 sq ft
-Prefer an older home
-Want lots of trees around
-.3 to 1 acre
-Prefer a neighborhood with older couples, singles. (Not too many kids)
highly walkable (meaning I can walk around the streets of my neighborhood and walk a couple of miles around the different streets without having to cross a major road)
-being able to walk to a greenway would be great
-Safety is important of course

So far I seem to like all the neighborhoods with lots of foreclosures. LOL Grove Park, Mint Hill (east). I have also been looking in the northern part of south charlotte. I like Stonehaven. I saw a house in Concord that I like, but I didn't think Concord was very pretty. Any other suggestions would be great. Since I am new here I may have missed something. Thanks

You read my mind. The area around Garrison Blvd east of New Hope fits the bill exactly. While Garrison & New Hope are major roads you aren't taking your life in your hands to cross them on foot. Loads of brick ranchers, some very attractive older 2 story houses mixed in. Elementary school in that area is excellent, middle & high schools are OK, so not a drag for resale.

Hmm, looked at Gastonia. That doesn't look like my style. Too rural looking maybe.

???
The area that I described is walking distance to the main library, & a lot of the shopping on East Franklin Blvd. I never think rural in that neighborhood, but to each his own.

Thanks, I'll take a closer look. I wanted to be closer in though.

No problem. If it turns out that it works for you, fine. If not, that's fine too. It fits what you want but the location might not work for you. Just check a map source because the street name changes from Garrison at New Hope. It appears to be a mix of ages but skewing a bit older.
