Hello!

My husband has a very promising final interview this Monday and if this turns out the way we expect, we will be relocating to the area! If it works out, he will be working in Indian Land, SC but I wanted to take advantage of the cheap rentals I've found in/around Monroe for the year we plan to rent before buying. We are currently living in Northern VA and almost anywhere else is cheaper than living here lol!! Currently, my husband's commute is within a 10-mile drive that can take up to an hour so a 30-min commute would be easy.

We won't have much of an opportunity to thoroughly explore the area before we move, so I was hoping to get a perspective of the area from a local if possible. I'm sure from another perspective it would seem silly to move to a place I haven't spent much time, but this job would be worth it. Anyway, I've contacted almost a dozen realtors that don't want much to do with us since we're not buying so I figured I'd try here!

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

First of all, the drive from Monroe to Indian Land is about 45 minutes, so not sure why you are looking in Monroe. Secondly, there is a reason the rent is so low. Where else were you looking? If you give more information, I may be able to help.

Indian Land is a great area and has decent rentals. What is your Budget? As another said. Monroe isn't close.

That's what I was afraid of! I'm just looking for a decent, family-friendly neighborhood, hoping to spend around $1500/mo in rent, but I haven't seen much that cheap outside of Monroe.

Ballantyne seems to be similar to where we are now based on amenities/type of area but I've also been looking into Waxhaw, Indian Land, Fort Mill, Rock Hill and Pineville. We could easily up our budget to $1700 or so but the more we can save, the more goes towards a down payment on a house in a year.

We are in our early 30's with a toddler and another baby on the way, so a nice, kid-friendly neighborhood would be ideal. I was just rather hopeful this move would be able to afford a healthier savings! Bummer

There are places that are fantastic that are in the Monroe mailing address but aren't actually in the town. One example is Wesley Chapel. I also wouldn't be surprised if there are rentals in your price range in Wesley Chapel. Lots of kids, good school if you stayed there until that point.

Thanks! I've found a few rentals close to the airport that would work for us. We currently live right in the path of Dulles Airport- IAD so I would assume living near a small town airport wouldn't be so bad!

Monroe covers a fairly large area. Like any place, it depends on where in Monroe the OP is looking.

Um, Charlotte has a heck of a lot more flights than IAD....not a lot of wide-bodies, but a ton of flights.

OP is referencing the Monroe Airport, not Charlotte Douglas.
