Hi all,
I want to live in the Uptown area, however I really don't want to live in a condo or townhouse. Are there any neighborhoods within 10 minutes of Uptown (or 15 minutes at maximum), where I could purchase a house? I'm a single woman in my 30's and would be living there alone, so I need a neighborhood that is fairly safe. I'm looking to spend around $300,000. I'm not in Charlotte yet, so I really can't have a look around for myself, and I don't know the neighborhoods at all.

Any suggestions on what neighborhoods might work for me?

Thanks!

Look at Sedgefield, Chantilly, Plaza Midwood, Madison Park. Basically the neighborhoods east and south of Uptown (but not too far east).

I just noticed that carolinadawg2 mentioned all of the places I was going to write. Go with his suggestions. I might add that you might possibly find something at that price off of Cedar (off West Trade).

Sorry, I meant "place" not "price."

I wouldn't rule out Wesley Heights.

Thank you for the recommendations so far. There's not a lot of selection at my price point ($300K) in those neighborhoods, so I'm thinking I'll need to branch out away from Uptown.

The reason I'm looking at Uptown is because I'd like to be around the younger, single crowd. I lived in a suburb once that was full of families, where everyone was at home in bed by 9:00pm and it was pretty miserable. Are there any other areas of Charlotte that might be of interest to me?

Thanks!

I see a few in those neighborhoods under $300k. Maybe they're on the smaller side, but for a single person I'd think you wouldn't need a whole lot of space.

Housing inventory is low for much of Charlotte right now. A lot of neighborhoods may require that you watch and jump on the right house. I would rent while exploring neighborhoods.
