Hi

Do anyone have the kids go to South Iredell High school or Lake Norman High school and can give us an overall idea about the school teachers and school staffs.
Thank you

Both are good schools with similar demographics. As for the teachers there are some great teachers at both schools. Some bad ones too. This is true at any school.

The principals are both hard working and stressed out. The staff is underpaid but pretty resilient at both schools. Both schools have a good mix of people that are new to Charlotte and many that have been here for a while. South Iredell has grown a lot over the last few years so it's student:teacher ratio isn't as good, but it's not a big factor.

Your child will need to navigate different personalities and learn how to earn a good grade in each class.

The biggest factor for your child's success it your child and their home environment. You seem to be interested in finding a good situation, so the prospects look good.

I recommend visiting both schools if you have the time.

Thank you!
We will surely ask to visit both school. We have recently moved to Mooresville, in term of distance, Lake Norman high school is near by where we are, but I hear that there is the drug issue with the kids there. Will the school's principal want to discuss about that with new parents?

My kids go to Lake Norman Elementary and love the school. My kids are looking forward very much to attending LK HS when they are older. We know a lot of families that have kids at both high schools. If you are in the Lake Norman district but want your kids to go to an IB high school, they actually go to South Iredell HS for this because there is not enough room at LN. LN is alot bigger school and has more avialable progams than SI does if you are not in the IB program.

As for the drug rap, I think that is overblown about LN. There are drugs present at most HS these days. Lake Norman famlies tend to be higher income families and thus have more access to money to buy drugs, but I do not think that makes it that much worse. I refereee basketball and the best 2 players at Maiden HS got busted Tuesday for drugs and were kicked off the team.

The best explicit drugs are in the private schools. Lake Norman does not have a drug problem disproportionate to any high school.

I would put the pressure back on your kid, not on the prevalence of drugs. Kids that want to find drugs can find them. The key is teaching/pressuring/supporting a kid to know better.

My daughter is a sophomore at Lake Norman. She moved over to this school after finishing the IB for middle school and we decided that we wanted a wider variety of class selections for her. She has been challenged academically with Honors and AP classes, and we have been very pleased with the teachers. The sports programs are great with an active Booster Club and Parent participation. The school spirit is very high, and like any high school there are social cliques, but it really appears that everyone is able to find a group that fits their social needs. I am a very involved parent, and thus far am lucky enough to have some pretty open kids about what goes on at school. I don't think there is any bigger drug problem than present at any other high school, and actually I think it is really on the radar for the staff to insure this doesn't become a bigger issue. I have found the Pros far outweigh the cons at this school. That being said, many of her friends went on to the IB school at South, and I haven't heard any negatives there either. Let me know if I can answer any specific questions. By the way, it's class registration time currently at the high school for next year.

We like both schools after visiting them. We will take the decision this week and hope that we are not late for the registration.
