I never went to IKEA but, when they opened the one in Atlanta a couple years ago, people camped out over night before the grand opening. SMH. I can't understand. Traffic over there was out of control for weeks after they opened.

I am also happy that Ikea is opening. Great store! However, the area is no how equipped to handle the traffic. The University Area is bad now; I can't imagine what it will be like when Ikea opens. As for WalMart, they are abandoning the dump they've made out of their location on JM Keynes drive, and will move their flesh eating viral operation, and their thousands of Walmartians, nearby IKEA, further complicating the traffic situation.

Your fist visit? Wow, sounds pretty aggressive. I don't understand why more people don't just hop online and shop. I also get their catalog.

I remember when I was 4/5 years old, my mom would take us to the IKEA in Plymouth Meeting, PA. I always loved to see all the bedrooms, but I don't think we ever got anything really. We went just to look, and didn't buy IKEA furniture until 2000 or so. My parents don't really get IKEA furniture now, but they buy mostly glasses and stuff like that from them. I wish that the IKEA was open already, as I'm moving out into my own apartment next month, and I don't want to have to buy it back home in PA and drive it back down here.
For some reason, I've never really seen why all the craze when new stores open. I guess I'm just used to having one nearby since we moved to the US in 1989.

Ohio is getting an IKEA in Cincinnati - even here in Columbus the buzz has taken over and folks are planning there first day trips to visit the new store.
I was living in suburban Atlanta when that IKEA opened up a little over two years ago. I waited a couple of months to let it die down. The day I went it was very crowded. They did have their own parking garage - which I was impressed by!
I bought a few things from them - mainly dishes, glassware & cutlery. I guess I'm a little past buying my furniture (that's all the rage) from them.
I am suprised they chose the University area. I used to live in CLT - and I have heard mixed reviews of how that area is doing these days. That area probably does have the target market they are looking for though...
