The reason New York taxes are so high is that they overpay their workers in NYC and then have to pay inflated pensions. Welcome to the real world. You're getting paid what you're worth. Plain and simple. Nobody's fault but your own. Update your skills.
Hey, if you're not as qualified as all of the other New Yorkers that come down here for jobs with decent pay, that's your problem. Your lacking something versus all of the other of New Yorkers taking high paying jobs.

OK rocket scientists, do the math & see what their ages are. If none of you have watched the news in the last 8 years, age discrimination is back with a vengeance because of a Supreme Court ruling. Just think. . .the older you get the closer you get to being bit by it.
The OP was wrong to not check about acceptance of their insurance. The court ruling came down about when they moved. Apparently they haven't watched the news either. It's been in national & local newscasts.

And they didn't have jobs lined up. The economy started to tank in 08. Wonder what their attitude is like as well? Positive or negative?

I don't know what their attitude is. Apparently they don't watch the news. I also came down in 08 with work waiting for me & when the economy collapsed the job vanished before I could start it. Whether they had something lined up, only they know. I know of several people who moved to the area as the economy was collapsing & had the jobs go up in smoke.
The OP was wrong to not check about insurance. They obviously haven't watched the news or read newspapers because the age discrimination problem has been covered for years. The problem is nationwide. It has nothing to do with Charlotte. But go right ahead and have a problem with me posting what the job problem is.
I would guess OP isn't going to be returning to see the responses, but sorry it didn't work out for you in Charlotte. But congratulations on your success in NY...I would think an NYC police sergeants pension is probably much higher than the average household income in most areas of Charlotte, plus the sale of a home up there and that should've set you up pretty nicely for a life elsewhere besides NY. Sorry about the health insurance issues, but I have a feeling that wouldn't have been unique to Charlotte either.
