Hello all,

I been looking a this board for quite some time so I know people post these kind of questions on a daily basis. However, I like the advice some people give so...Its my turn. I am attempting to move to Charlotte in June but I am having some trouble locating employment. I work for T. Rowe Price as mutual fund accountant for the past two years after graduating school. I am 25 and have been looking to buy as close to uptown as possible with a 160K max budget. Can anyone recommend or know places to look for employment and places I SHOULD be looking to live? Any help would be appreciated.

Im not really picky. I was looking for a single family at first but have since broaden my horizon to any available lol, as long as it is within my target range and worth the price. My main concern however is with employment. Im hesitant to move before I am employed.

You are spot on w/ hesitating to move w/o a job. We have heard many sad stories on this board from people who have moved down here after hearing we have a great job market . . . and six months later - no job.

Do you want to work w/ a brokerage? a bank? As you know, we have Wachovia and BofA here . . . get on their websites and see what is open. I would start there. Maybe others will have suggestions.

Dont move without a job. The job proccess in Charlotte is very very slow. More so then any other city I have lived.

Buying a condo or single family home for under 160k close to uptown is not posisble unless you want to live closer to the "hood"

We have a 4 bedroom two bath home in mooresville, nc located about 20 miles from charlotte. The home cost us only 180k to live in, and It's NOT in the hood, as a matter of fact it's on lake norman. hmmmm? any ideas??

I think the OP meant - something right in uptown, not that far outside the city.

Sounds very nice, tho - love LKN!

Mooresville to uptown Charlotte is a TERRIBLE commute, and the poster was referring to places close to uptown, not in the next county! What Frank said about not being able to buy a house close to uptown for $160,000 or less without being in the 'hood is pretty accurate.
