They should be proud to be AMERICAN. The Civil War ended long before their time. Why am I even explaining this? Most of you wouldn't get what I am saying anyways.
Just curious....do you know these people personally?

I'm from NYC and I don't get what you are saying...What makes your lifestyle so right and theirs so wrong??? They are holding a confederate flag......HOLY COW!!!! Maybe we should get Rev Al back down here( because he gets involved in all these important race issues).......Again you should not judge the way other people live....your values are different then than theirs...I've seen much worse in NYC than that!! BTW...let's not forget how PROUD everyone is in NY to be an American. How many different flags do you see up in NY, on peoples cars etc??

Nyxmike - I think most of us get what you are saying. Like I said earlier, they are ignorant. I am sure they know very little to nothing about that flag they are holding. The problem is... there are stupid humans everywhere. It is a world wide epidemic, not just a southern one.

These are Southern kids just goofing around. Being Southern or taking a picture w/ the Battle Flag does not mean someone is a redneck and neither does four wheeling mean they are rednecks. You are giving that Battle Flag a lot more meaning than these kids give it. This is just their way of saying"Born in the South." It has nothing to do w/ anything else - they probably don't even know that much about the Civil War.

Quit trying to fight some battle b/n the North and the South. To kids here, waving that Battle Flag has no more meaning that when you wear a NY Yankees hat. Really. CHILL.

So why not wear an Atlanta Braves hat??

Ok, I get what you are saying. I still think they are idiots though.

They may be idiots. (They are definitely goofy) Just don't let it upset you, okay?

Kids do foolish things.
I do not see anything racist or hateful (other than the 'bird' I guess) in the photos.

So you (not you personally, but your heritage I presume from your original post) defeat the South in the war of northern aggression, then 143 years later want to move here and complain about a historical flag? Sure I have seen all the posts about how the pizza here stinks, and the bagels are no good, and northerners cannot find a good diner. But can we (people of the South) please hold onto some of our history? Just as my wife is proud of her Northern heritage in and around Boston, I too am proud of my Southern heritage. And no, I do not fly a Confederate flag or have stickers of such on my vehicles. IMHO it is in the past, and it is time to move on. I fail to get your point, but I am almost 2x your age. Obviously many other Americans are also proud of their heritage when on this forum I see names like 'nyxmike' & 'brkln2clt', and a dozen other similar names. Everyone has a part of where they grew up in their heart - and why should anyone apologize for that? I would argue they should not have to, we are all proud Americans.

Last fall I was visiting my inlaws in Bernardston MA.
There is a beautiful old cemetery with probably 300 graves of brave troops from the North who fought against the South as well as a stunning large statue dedicated to the same. I was struck to see this site as the sun was setting behind an old church. I had nothing but respect and sadness (just as I do when I visit a Confederate cemetary) as I pondered history.

IMHO get over it already, there are much bigger issues at hand.
If you were not aware the Secretary of State is a successful black woman, and shortly the USA could elect the first black (well, 1/2 black) President.
The idea of racism & 'the man' keeping people down is only perpetuated by the likes of Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton.

geez man, its not like they are out burning crosses in the neighborhood.

It's a "country" thing just as gothic folks, hip hop culture, the jocks, the nerds, etc, wear what they were and preach what they preach.

I'm not seeing the problem there Mike. And I am twice your age with a Masters Degree. Kids for years have been looking for outlets to "express themselves", from the hippies of the 60's, to the disco and punk extremes of the 70's and 80's, right into rap and gangsta' in the 90's and this decade. Do you think they are recruiting people to their way of life by taking some pictures in the woods? Get over it man. They're just acting in a way they see is cool. Just like when you see adult males bare-chested and painted in their teams colors while watching a football game in extreme weather. To me, this is a pointless argument you are making. However, if you feel strongly, then I would support your decision to move away. Everyone should be happy with their place in life.
