I have the possibility of getting a new job and I am really trying to compare the area to where I am from and looking for a lifestyle.

The job that I am looking at is located in the area of just North of the airport. For the first year I would be looking for somewhere that is small and not expensive. All that I am looking for is a quiet place that I would be safe. I am a white mail in my early 40's. My salary would be in the $90,000 range for the first year and about $100,000 the second year. Is this a salary that could be lived on comfortably in the area? Also where would I look for a place that might fit my needs for the first year.

Second is that I live currently in a city of about 100,000 right now in the center of Missouri. Not a bad town and it is pretty quiet for the most part. I know that it will be a different lifestyle there and I can live with that. I enjoy just going to dinner, going out to a shooting range, do some fishing or even just sit out and BBQ (quiet lifestyle for the most part) Can I expect to do things like this with out having to drive long distances to do so?

I have read through so many threads that my eyes are starting to bleed. I have seen from one extreme to the other on living there. I am looking for someone that maybe has the same lifestyle or interests that I do so that I can try to get a comparison.

Thank you in advance.

One can certainly live quite comfortably on $90 to $100,000 in the Charlotte area. Given your lifestyle, interests and work location, I'd suggest you look to live in Gaston or Lincoln Counties...Places like Belmont, Gastonia, or Lincolnton.

Given your interests & job location, I'd suggest Belmont, Mt Holly, Gastonia, or Kings Mountain. You can fish in Moss Lake, which is the Kings Mountain reservoir for drinking water. Cleveland County is opening a shooting range which will be located just north of Shelby.

I suggest Belmont, just west of Charlotte. I lived there in the past and it's a wonderful town. It's the closest suburb to the airport (10 minutes or so), safe community, great schools, reasonable cost of live, one of the easiest commutes in the Charlotte area, lots of recreational assets, family-friendly, sits along I-85, and has a very reasonable growth rate. In my opinion, it's the nicest suburb in the the metro area. Another good option would be Ft. Mill, a suburb SW of Charlotte in SC. No offense to anyone, but I would avoid the Lake Norman area (Huntersville/Cornelius/Davidson/Mooresville, all North of Charlotte) and Union Co. (Indian Trail/Lake Park/Weddington/Waxhaw/Monroe, all SE of Charlotte). Nice areas in their own right, but the commutes to the airport would be a nightmare. Those areas have very heavy traffic most of the time, but especially at rush hour. Hope this helps.

I suggested Belmont, but if you noticed what the OP is looking for, family friendly & schools weren't on the list. He'd like some sort of proximity to a shooting range.

Ahh, shooting ranges...in Gastonia there is the Rankin Lake public shooting facility. Accommodates rifle, pistol skeet and trap. Not super far from airport.

Even Belmont has an indoor range, Shooters Express!

Just north of Waxhaw there is the Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club, a private members and guests only facility. The biggest shooting venue in the area.

There have been so many new indoor ranges built over the last 7 1/2 all over the metro area, I am sure you are no more than 10 minutes from one anywhere in Charlotte.

Is the shooting range at Rankin Lake open to the public all of the time? I thought it was used by the police part of the time or am I confusing it with another? The shooting range in Cleveland County should be opening soon.

Yep, you're right. I missed that. Shooters Express is right on the Belmont/ Mt. Holly line off I-85 (indoor) and Rankin Lake Range (outdoor) off I-85 in Gastonia. Maybe those would interest him.
