Default Redneck vs Good ole boy

A redneck is one that "generally" has a noticable beer gut that he is rather proud of. He likes to drink beer, belch, likes his women a little on the trashy side, ready for a good ole fight if challenged, proud of his ability to change or distort vocabulary words when speaking, prefers pitbulls to poodles, often drives his pickup truck in the passing lane without having a clue why people are tailgating him, has noticable tobacco stains on his car door. Generally found in all states except Hawaii and Vermont. A title that one is sometimes proud of. Could be considered as a scattered out cult.

A Good ole boy is usually restricted to southern guys. They are big, lovable, like to drink beer and B.S. with anybody near them, loves fishing, hunting, country music, says ma'am to women, and loves sports on television. Generally happy and positive and has a blue collar job. These characteristics could apply to anyone if they had the accent. HEy, I didn't write the rules.

That's the problem - there are no "rules". What you are doing is perpetuating a stereotype

Oh my. Now we have brought yet another word to the vocabulary - Good Ole Boy.

Hee Hee - yes, we know you didn't write the rules - but you do have The Good Ole Boy down pretty well.

Southern Gentleman is yet another category but we are going to confuse things too much if we throw that in now, LOL.

Your definition is what Redneck has morphed into, I think.

I think that Vindaloo has the stereotypes down pretty well - nothing like Loves' definition of a red neck which I prefer.

Yep. I think you are right.

Now for Good Ole Boy - that can mean several different things to me. GOB can refer to men who are part of the Old Boy Network, wh/ usually arises from association in college . . . frat houses . . . or sports . . . or can occur from country club associations that may go back to even childhood . . . family ties . . .

But the lovable beer and gun toting GOB that Vindaloo describes . . . that is a definite stereotype that often gets lumped into the redneck category.

I honestly do not think any region of this country is subjected to as many stereotypes as the South!!! I mean - what else is there?

The west - I guess there is still the "cowboy" thing . . . but look at the South - we have so many stereotypes going here . . .

It explains a stereotype. More of the Jeff Foxworthy humorous stuff.

The items on that list could apply to a trashy person anywhere. And the ultimate stereotype is about people intermarrying.

ani - I think that the definition of what a redneck is, defies description for an individual to adequately explain to the masses. It reminds me of the line by the Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said about pornography "I can't explain it, but I know it when I see it!"
