That's a pretty positive statement from someone who appears to know nothing about German laws.

Good point. For such a pleasant state to be a part of, why must elected officials (and by implication, their constituents) so often be on the wrong side of history? Baffling.
By the way, those who believe the business community of bluffing with their threats to take economic action, set your wayback machine to not so many months ago and see how well it worked out for Indiana when they decided to enact lunkhead-ed rights legislation.

I think the problem is that many folks fail to realize that some transgenders are extremely convincing. So convincing that they are already using their restroom of choice without any problems. This fact alone makes the bathroom decision by the state hate-based...

https://youtu.be/_etedm-o5xA

The video above is just one of many examples of those who would have more problems going into their birth gender restroom. In many cases, guys like the one above use ladies restrooms without any trouble. If he were forced to use the men's room by law, he would get teased, beaten, or possibly raped by straight men (then beaten when those guys discover he is a male).

Bathrooms of choice simply protects both convincing and the not-so-convincing trans population.

The other thing about McCrory is that he was mayor of Charlotte for the enormous expansion of the late 1990s and early 2000s. He had the CEOs of NationsBank, First Union, and Duke Power backing all kinds of projects, the Panthers had just moved in, the population was exploding, and everyone held hands and cheered.

However, there was a lot of resentment on the east side of the state. Road projects in Charlotte didn't get funded. Independence Blvd and I-485 were/are decades in construction, yet pork projects for small towns down east got funded and built without a problem.

McCrory was seen as having the potential to give the western side of the state a voice in Raleigh.

The end of the story is that he followed the money trail and did whatever his keepers in Raleigh wanted him to do. He gave out sweetheart no-show high-paying jobs to his friends and "supporters". He chased away people who had worked for the state for years. He gutted the DENR. That's why we have the coal ash problem in the state.

I don't know how he sleeps at night.

Even a moderate Republican would get dragged to rhe far right with an ultra conservative legislature in place. Same would happen if Kasich were to become president with the current House and Senate.

The transgender bathroom issue unfortunately became the Trojan Horse which allowed the state general assembly to pass a discrimination bill that discriminates far beyond just that issue. Basically the state says it's perfectly OK to discriminate, at will, against someone because they are Gay or Lesbian.

They could have never, even in NC gotten away with passing a bill like that on it's own, but they calculated that enough people were uncomfortable enough with the bathroom thing, to get away with it. They also slipped in a anti-minimum wage restriction on cities as well.

Pat McCrory wasn't this far right when he was mayor of Charlotte. I believe he surprised a lot of people when he got to Raleigh and started acting so far right. I don't believe he will win this election come November though I also know that Roy Cooper isn't that well known so Pat McCrory may be able to claim another victory.

North Carolina is a little unique in that we have our state elections during the same time as the presidential election. Probably the same reason why there have been so few Republicans elected in this state.

McCrory was voted in with a higher margin than Romney was, which means there were crossover votes. Mecklenburg, Wake, and Forsyth all voted for McCrory, especially since he sold himself as a moderate Republican from a big city. If he loses the support of the big cities, he's essentially done. However, whoever is at the top of the ticket will have the most impact on if McCrory gets reelected in. Hate to say this, but Clinton and Trump will likely be the deciding factor here.
