Default Moving to Charlotte after graduation

Hi all. I've been lurking for the past few months, reading threads, and thought I should finally introduce myself. My name is Jess and I will be graduating from pharmacy school in May. I'm relocating to Charlotte very soon after. I have made 2 trips down so far and have decided that I would very much like to live in the southwest part of Charlotte. With any luck I will be your friendly neighborhood pharmacist at one of the retail chains, which one I haven't decided yet. I'm coming back down late March to go out with my realtor again and hopefully find my future home.

I am looking into leasing a townhome. I fell in love with Ryan townhomes in Arysley but I don't think I can afford to jump into a mortgage right off the bat. If any one knows of any good properties, feel free to let me know.

I'm moving from a small town near Albany, NY. I know I will have to take a driver's test and get new license plates but I'm not really sure on a timeline for that. Help here would be appreciated. Also is there anything else that a relocator has to do?

Lastly...I guess I need some help from the ladies out there. I obviously will need a new hairdresser, doctor/gyno, dentist, tanning salon, nail salon, etc. Please let me know if you have any really good suggestions or people/places I should definitely avoid. For added help-- curly hair, relatively healthy, a gyno who is aware of PCOS would help, dentist who doesn't treat you like a little kid, and a clean tanning/nail place.

Thank you in advance to everyone. Can't wait to move to your town

So glad you are working things out! I know you will find a wonderful position here.

You might do a search on this forum as someone had done a thread on GYNs who treat PCOS - and there were some suggestions there! So that would mark on thing off the list.

Also, all kinds of links on hairdressers, as well. We have so many good ones here. Depending on where you will end up living - there are many salons - hair and nail - all over the place. Same for tanning.

THe main thing I guess you are asking about at this time is a place to rent, right? I suspect no one is answering you on this b/c you are not sure where you will be working and the commute times can be sooooo daunting if you work in one area and commute from the wrong spot. So I think we really need to find out where you will be working b/f we suggest rentals.

Let us know as things shape up more.

Well to answer your question-- the two companies I am most serious about have told me that they will place me whereever I chose to live. So being that I like southwest Charlotte the best, they are both willing to find me a store in that area. I really like the area Arysley is in (corner of South Tyron) and I know someone who lives in Belmont that really likes that area. So suggestions in that section of town would be great.

I like Belmont a lot too - though I'm not sure a single person would enjoy it quite as much.

Someone at work asked me today-- is the price of registering your car a flat rate or is it based on the year/make of the car like Virginia?

Adding some more information to my previous post. I was just offered two jobs and need help deciding where would be a better place to live. South Tryon near 485 or Indian Trail? And when you choose between the two, do you know of any townhome rental communities in those areas that you would recommend? And lastly, how bad would the commute be between S Tryon to Indian Trail (considering my work hours would be 9am-9pm weekdays)?

Well congrats on the job offers!!!! Welcome to the Queen City. I can only help with part of your question, but I'm sure several folks will chime in. Indian Trail is in Union county, which is a very popular place many people who "buy" here are moving too. They have excellent schools and if you had a chance to buy there, I'd jump on it. The other area you're talking about, even though its far South of the city, its a much more "urban" area of town. There are a lot of shops and resturants near there. But that also means you have all types of people who frequent that area. If you're going to be working in Indian Trail, I'd recommend you look to live out there, or some where near Ballyntyne.
