The commute to Mooresville from South Charlotte will give you no quality of life as a family. There are plenty of great options with good schools in your price point in the Mooresville area, especially in new construction within your price point.

Have a deep research in the Mooresville local life, activities, sport, shopping, etc ... to find out if they match your wife's interest. If she is only for the urban style, Davidson could be a solution for you and your family. You do not have to worry about the schools. Schools in Mooresville area are excellent.
For the night life, there are not so much of pubs in Mooresville, but going to several pubs in Cornelius or Davidson would take you only 10 - 15 min in the evening.
Good luck!

We have been looking at neighborhoods in concord that go to Odell elementary. Plus if I change jobs the commute is still central enough. The concern is if the school is over crowded?

They are opening a relief school in August. The current Odell (in Moss Creek) will be K-2 and the new one which is also called Odell (it's at the corner of Odell School Road and 73) will be 3-5th.

What about this compromise - rent somewhere near Mooresville and once you get the job you want downtown, buy something in South Charlotte. That way you don't suffer through an unreasonable commute and your wife isn't stuck somewhere she doesn't want to be in the long run.

Agreed. If there's a chance you'll be getting a new job at Wells/BOA over the next year or two, then you should not go out and buy a house in Mooresville. It's a great area, especially if you work there, but you won't want to make the commute on 77 every day if you have a job in Uptown.

If you want to check on the school, go to the website "GreatSchools.org" which offers the overall school ranking.
