I'm really getting tired of all the negative press around Northlake Mall, if you look at the raw crime data, Northlake is still one of Charlotte's safer areas, not to mention the Wendy's in question is at least two "blocks" away from the mall, (blocks being in quotes because it's a more suburban area, so they're larger and less defined) Calling the "Northlake Mall Wendy's" makes it almost sound as if the restaurant is in the food court.
As a geographic compromise we can now refer to Northlake Mall as "SoLaNo"...South of Lake Norman. No slur on the Mall, no tie to Charlotte. It fits since most of the crime is probably from disgruntled Davidson soccer mom's settling beefs after one too many Chardonnay at the clubhouse, right?

Data is a funny thing that can be used to serve any argument. What can't be denied is that there have been 3 shootings in 4 months in the general mall area. I think it's quite fair to call the Wendy's north lake mall Wendy's. When I go to that target I and everyone I know say northlake target.
Anywhere you have a large gathering of people you will have property crime. When I was in Hawaii a friend left her purse in our car and in under 5 minutes it was gone, yet Hawaii is very safe, and has very low voilent crime rates. Point being comparing any mall across America I'm willing to bet that the property crime rates are about the same. In fact one could argue the rates at a mall like South Park should being higher, since they sell such high end merchandise.
What we know as fact is there hasn't been 3 shootings in 4 months at any other Charlotte area mall.

The Northlake area is unique as it's still technically in Charlotte, but right on the fringe. Concord Mills is a huge tourist mall, Carolina Place is in Pineville, and Southpark is in a very nice, wealthy/upper middle class neighborhood. Just to the south of Northlake are lower income neighborhoods we don't really see that at the other malls, and while I'd like to think most mall patrons are well behaved, there are some criminally minded folks who live down Beatties Ford and other areas. I feel like this wouldn't get so much media attention if there hadn't been a shooting inside the actual mall last year, the media is really trying to get people riled up.
I can guarantee most of the Northlake area crime is property crime, or violent crime among people who know eachother, frankly I'd be more scared of a white lone wolf shooter or terrorist attack than a gang/drug related shooting.
