Hi All,

My project this spring/summer was to landscape the back yard. The previous owner was a Gardner who planted mulch throughout the whole backyard. After many hours of removing the dirt/mulch, ivy, weeds ect in the backyard I am ready to start planting grass seed this weekend. Right now I have fescue in the front lawn but want to plant Zoysia in the back. it will be contained and separated from the front so no spreading will happen. Also the back yard is fully gated so I will not mind the grass going dormat during the offseason, but would really love green luscious grass throughout the summer months. I was wandering if anyone had any luck with Zoysia and how do you like it? did you plant sod or seed?

Thanks in advance!

LOL, Guess what I'm doing right now. About to go with Zoysia myself. If you don't have many Sq Ft just buy the SOD. I have over 6k SQ FT in my front yard and I will attempt to plant seed. It will be much cheaper than SOD, but it does have a lot of risks. I will have to keep that seed wet for 3 weeks straight.

I purchased Zoysia SOD in my back yard and that grass is amazing. Tons of videos oh how to plant seed or SOD. 3X3 plugs aren't cheap to buy.

We planted Zoysia in our backyard pool area. We are very patient/cheap people so we did plugs and just waited for them to spread. We did this twelve years ago and LOVE it. It rarely gets weeds in it because it is so dense, and It's great by a pool because it grows so slowly that it doesn't need to be cut very often. Fewer cuttings=fewer cleanup sessions scooping bits of grass out of the pool. The lawn is SO cushy-comfy on bare feet that sometimes we just stand on it and say "Ahhhhh..." Of course it does go dormant in the winter and isn't too pretty then, but with a safety cover on the pool during those few months, it's not all that pretty back there anyway.

Had it for many, many years...loved it. Ours was always started with seed, and the watering seemed endless but it was so beautiful.

We have Zeon Zoysia at our place in Pinehurst. We put down sod, fertilize and water often.

2 households near where my parents lived put in zoysia years ago. It got onto neighbors' yards inspite of driveways. One household was sold & the new owners spent years killing it off. Their neighbors eventually got rid of it too. The last time I drove by the remaining house the zoysia had spread even further.

It's one of the slowest growing grasses made.

I've been thinking a lot of a zoysia.

People pull weed, plant seed and smoke grass.
