Any one familiar with the 28215 area, specifically veronica drive? Is it a safe, quiet place to raise family? Anything that you can tell me would be appreciated. Thanks

Veronica Dr. is off of Harrisburg Rd in eastern Mecklenburg County - while I prefer the part of Harrisburg Rd over the county line (the other side of I485) becasue it is more rural and has better schools, this is not a bad area at all

The CPD crime mapping feature shows the previous months activity of Veronica Dr and the surrouding area. It seems to be a 'lively' area, even in the winter. I wonder how much more busier the 911 operators are in the summer! i disagree with your 'this is not a bad area at all' opinion, way to active for my taste.

Well, if you went strictly by the crime mapping you'd probably never live in a lot of nice areas in Charlotte STATS DON'T TELL THE WHOLE STORY.

Here's the "crime" you are so concerned about on Veronica:

08-Feb-2008 9600 VERONICA DR STRAY ANIMAL
20080203112701 03-Feb-2008 9800 VERONICA DR ATTEMPT TO LOCATE
20080205175600 05-Feb-2008 9800 VERONICA DR WILD ANIMAL
20080206144302 06-Feb-2008 9800 VERONICA DR JUVENILE-PHYSICAL ABUSE OR NEGLECT
20080206155602 06-Feb-2008 9800 VERONICA DR WILD ANIMAL
20080118131100 18-Jan-2008 5500 WHISPERFIELD LN SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE UNOCCUPIED
20080118202401 18-Jan-2008 5500 WHISPERFIELD LN SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE UNOCCUPIED

All the other calls for service within a half mile of that street were for things like "curfew violation" "car alarm" "welfare check" etc....No REAL crime to speak of at all.

I go back to my original statement - this is not a "bad" neighborhood.

IMO, sometimes people tend to think the areas of Charlotte with the olders homes, smaller homes, the lower priced homes and even ones areas that border other counties are "bad" areas. This is just not always the case! Thank you, lovesMountains for breaking down the crime statistics to make people aware of some of the many reasons why calls are made. Things are not always what they first appear to be....
This area of town has a lot of people who have been living there for YEARS, you won't find many million dollar homes, but you will find a lot of hard working people, parents who are involved in their kids education, I know 3 Charlotte firemen who live there, 2 CMS teachers, A vet., A minister, and an interior designer. I consider these people my friends, "good people" and I don't fear for my life when I visit them at night. Yes, I lock my car doors, but I lock my car doors at my own house.
Crime happens in every area of Charlotte. Murders and rapes and muggings happen in Ballantyne, Southpark and Wendover not just on the East side of town. Unfortunately it's the world we live in today.

You can NOT go by Stats!

I live Uptown...ZIP 28202.

100's of people are arrested in my ZIP weekly!...mostly drunks and disorderly conduct. Does that make Uptown bad...NO WAY!

Most of those arrest happen on Tryon St and around College St (between 6th & 7th St's).

Uptown is the safest area of Charlotte to live but we have the most arrest...so Stats are worthless!

When was the last time you heard someone get shot or murderd Uptown?...a long long time ago!

That was funny. And I don't even drink!

It is funny to be out on the balcony at 3am and watching the drunks stumble down the street in 4th Ward on their way home from the clubs.

You ought to video that and upload to YouTube.

But back to OP - do not rule out Veronica Dr area - I know a retired couple who live near there and these are good people who care about their neighborhood.
