What Area is This: East of East Charlotte, North of Wilgrove ? (Hickory: houses, neighborhoods)

If I look at maps, which usually shows the area or neighborhood, in the area which is East of East Charlotte and North of Wilgrove, nothing is listed.

There are 2 sub-areas I'm looking at:

1) Bounded by Rt. 485 on the East, Albermarle on the South, Harrisburg Rd. on the West and Camp Stewart Rd. on the North

2) Bounded by Rt. 485 on the East, Harrisburg Rd. on the South, Hood Rd. on the West, and Plaza Rd. Ext on the North.

The directions are approximate since the roads don't run true North-South or East-West.

Anyone know more about these areas or what one would call them ?

Nope, Hickory Grove is North and Northwest of East Charlotte. The area I'm talking about is Northeast and South east of East Charlotte.

There are just a few missing named neighborhoods in Charlotte, and these are a couple of them.

The areas in question do not have neighborhood names, as much of these areas have not been annexed by the city of Charlotte. However, they are part of the Crab Orchard township. Before Charlotte went on an annexing spree, all parts of Mecklenburg were divided into townships, with Crab Orchard being most of east Charlotte. Crab Orchard, along with other townships, were mostly erased once the city of Charlotte began expanding outward (the Sharon township was completely absorbed, which is the current day SouthPark area).

Thank you, Third Strike, interesting history. We'll check out some more about this in the future.

My main reason for asking was that feedback on various areas usually goes by name, so I wondered what the names were. I guess we will have to wing it and do more footwork, since there are a few houses in the area we like.

I would probably still call the first area East Charlotte, but pretty close to Mint Hill. I don't think I've ever actually heard anyone refer to "Wilgrove" as a specific area, I think it's the name of that little airport, and of course there's Wilgrove Mint Hill Road which is within Mint Hill town limits.

That second area is probably more like NE Charlotte getting closer to the University area IMO.

Bradfield Farms is a nice neighborhood, but it is east of 485. I do see that google maps also has it listed just south of where it really is.

Third Strike, Thanks for the info. Houses in our price range that look nice keep popping up in this area, so it's one we are considering.

Go Phils, not a surprise that Google maps and GPS for that matter is off. I'll take a paper map anyday.

That being said, this is one of the reasons why relocators come on City Data to find out details--there's nothing like being there and knowing really knowing the area.
