How about the neigborhoods off Carmel near Johnston and 51 intersections. I think there are some houses that are fixed up for under 200k and back up to a greenway.

All of these are in that area, and you can find homes under $200,000.
Some of them unfortunately don't show much pride in ownership.

some villages outside of Charlotte city limits such as Harrisburg, Concord, Kannapolis or Midland might be areas of interest. In some cases the commute to uptown Charlotte is less than living within the city limits.
