Default Walking Around Uptown Late at Night

I plan on seeing a show tomorrow night in Charlotte (my first time in the city) at The Forum on the corner of 6th and College Street. Since the show will most likely be getting out late, and I don't feel like driving 2 hours back to The Traingle, I wanted to stay at a hotel within walking distance of the club. I was looking at a hotel on Tryson and 9th St. Looking at Google Maps, it doesn't seem like that far of a walk. However, is it safe to walk around at 2 in the morning in this area?? I've walked around Philly, NYC, and Boston at night without a problem. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hey there! Why don't you stay at the Marriott at Trade & Tryon? It's right around the corner from the club. I think walking around anywhere late at nite alone is a bad idea. IMO

haven't you seen the trilogy? Escape from New York, Escape from LA, and Escape from downtown Charlotte. Chris....are you a woman or man? Will you be with friends or alone? I'm sorry but this post just puts crazy thoughts into people's heads....If you've been to Philly/NYC/Boston then you must have an ounce of 'street smarts' and shouldn't have a worry in the world (just don't blame me when thugs and gangs bust you up, steal your woman and drive off in your car). Anyways, I'm new here but downtown (or uptown) is not very big, quite nice, and seems to be well lit. Seems like there will be more than just you getting out of the show so you should at least be with some people for a good part of your trek. I wouldn't worry.

I think it's because he's a Dukie.

Seriously though, spend the extra money and stay at the Holiday Inn, which is on the same block/across the street from Forum. Walking to Days Inn at 9th and College is putting you into a more vulnerable area. Downtown is VERY safe, but 9th and College isn't exactly in the center of the action and the lights. Stay at the Holiday Iiiinnnnnnnnnn.....

haha, we've still got a W over Carolina this season....although I am a little embarrassed to be a Blue Devil after tonight's loss.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I was thinking about the Holiday Inn, due to its proximity to the club, but the difference in price was like a hundred bucks compared to the (2 star ) Days Inn. Might be worth it though.

If at all possible, avoid walking alone at night- anywhere, not just Charlotte. Not too long ago a young twentysomething guy named Kyle Fleischmann went missing from a bar off College Street in Charlotte. It just goes to show you can never be too careful. Chances of something happening might be slim and it might be reasonably safe, I always felt safe enough in Charlotte as long as I was careful, but it would be a better idea to stay as close as possible to the event even if the hotel's more expensive and also try to find someone to walk with you so you are not leaving alone. You can never be too careful- I'm not trying to sound preachy here, and I always felt ok in Charlotte, but look what happened to Kyle Fleischmann.

I dont know when you plan to visit but the price of room will be higher, and availibility of rooms wil be limited during the ACC tournament, CIAA tournament, and NCAA tournament.

No harm in asking for special rate--try AAA, student, or military rate.

I would avoid the Days Inn (I assume that is the hotel you are looking at) like the plague. It is by far the most run down hotel in downtown.

For a much better option, try the Holiday Inn Center City Holiday Inn Center City - Charlotte. It is across the street from Forum (as in like 30 ft). I stayed here in December and the hotel has been updated and is pretty good deal for the location.

I don't think walking around Charlotte at 2am is a problem, but I wouldn't suggest staying at the Days Inn. The other hotel I wouldn't walk to is the Double Tree as that is a haul (as is the Residence Inn).

When the Forum was Mythos, we often stayed at the Holiday Inn afterwards. Good choice.
