Hello All:
I've been reading your postings for the past three months hoping to find situations close to mines. Unfortuntely I have not, even though all of the information was very helpful.
I am planning to relocate to Charlotte (from Baltimore, MD) this summer (June 2008) with my two children. One is in middle school and the other is in headstart. I am looking to rent (section 8) in a good family community with great schools. I am planning to make my first visit in early March, could anyone offer any suggestions as to where I should begin my search?
Also, I will have my BA degree in Dec 08 in Accounting, how are the accounting jobs?
Hmmmm....great schools and section 8 usually do not go hand-in-hand.....however, if I had to make a suggestion, try zip code 28205.....neighborhoods or Belmont or Villa Heights to be specific.
Nothing really.....overall the schools in the Charlotte area are rated very high....but many for different reasons. Schools are evaluated on many different things, including crime, ciriculum, teacher ratio, experience, test scores, etc, etc, etc. So for someone to say "school ABC" is better than "school "XYZ", is only a personal opinion, based on what's important to that person. Those web sites are good ways for you to come up with your own opinion....know what I mean?

Well, it's not really quite that simple. Now that we have neighborhood schools (no busing for integration) some schools are definitely better than other schools. In particular, some of our schools are some of the best in the state, while others are so bad they need to be closed down. Overall there are more "good" schools than "bad" in my opinion, but only a handful of really "great" schools - when you go strictly by academic standings.
With your accounting education, you should do well in Charlotte. The bulk of the tax season will be over upon your arrival, so you may want to consider registering with one of the staffing agencies just so that you can gain immediate access to income while you search for a better position. A few staffing agencies to consider are AppleOne, Corestaff and Priemer Resources. For more networking, you may want to consider joining a group.
The L.A.S.E. Group offers great networking for female professionals in the Charlotte area as well as provides many opportunities for personal growth and enhancement.
