You don't have to point a gun at an officer for force to be used. If you are carrying a weapon and told to drop it and do not comply, that's an imminent threat.
Interesting how the narrative has gone from "He was carrying a book, probably the Bible, and he doesn't even own a gun!!!!!" to "Ok, he had a gun but it wasn't pointed at the officer!!!!!".
I'm not sure that I ever read that the police had said the gun was pointed at the officer, just that he had one. So far it sounds like that's still an accurate statement. Not sure where the "cover up" part of the story is?
Agree. Just the act of un-holstering a pistol is an assault under NC law. Also agree on the "cover up" Nobody destroyed evidence or lied. The family and concerned officials and attorneys saw the video. Why do people on some web forum believe they have a "right" to see this evidence and call it a "cover up" if not allowed?

Guess this guy was lucky he wasn't shot on site for an assault.
None of us were there, but if you think about it for about 3 seconds, after he was shot, as he fell to the ground, gravity could have taken the gun to Mr Scott's feet.

Yeah I'm asking why it's in the photo but isn't in the video from Mrs. Scott.
Why she would want to video this? Maybe wants to get likes on facebook?
It's amazing how naive some people are about the legitimate fear and distrust many people have of police. There is some heavy repairing to relationships long overdue. This case isn't proven as corrupt or a cover up, but the fear of a lack of integrity is a big reason we are having so protests.
I wish the police could adopt more methods to be transparent and accountable as quickly as possible to dispel rumors and reassure the public that they are truly protecting and serving.
