Spouse and I were planning to visit Charlotte next weekend for a fact-finding mission to see if it is a potential place to move to.

We have already visited the Triangle area and are leaning towards it, and this trip was to see if we should also be seriously considering Charlotte.

It will just be the two of us traveling (kids will stay with grandparents), and we had planned to see South Charlotte extensively (homes, private schools, country clubs) as well as meet with potential employers in the Uptown area on Friday.

Given the recent riots and chaos, should we plan on postponing our trip?

omg don't believe everything you here on the news. it's fine come have a good time. go to uptown on friday. the issues will be long gone. My god some people live in fear. Seriously don't drive to work today, because you have a greater chance of death or injury doing that, then being hurt in a riot in uptown charlotte during your visit. Wear a helmet though, just in case you get hit by a meteor while walking around

No, everything that should be blown over by then.

Please be aware what you have seen on the news this week is NOT Charlotte.

This is a fantastic city to live in.

This week? It's Friday. Did you mean this weekend?

Yes, it's almost certainly safe. With possible protests and police/National Guard presence it may not be 100% convenient, though.

An individual was shot and killed in front of the Omni this week.

Your friend might want to find another hotel at this time. I recommend maybe the Embassy Suites on Speedway Blvd. Completely safe there in comparison.

Despite the chaos that erupted on Wednesday night, everything has been peaceful since the National Guard came in to town.

I would avoid Uptown for a bit, especially given the recent events and negative publicity Kandy Bar has received.

I back what everyone else has said - Charlotte is a GREAT city! What you saw on the news does not represent Charlotte.
