For a new place, I too am impressed with Speeds.
They have a Euro bike night 1x a month which I enjoy

Don't get me wrong, but brisket as good as it is ain't BBQ in NC (in Texas it is BBQ).
In the southeast, including NC, BBQ is PORK. There is eastern NC style, and western NC style, but it is pork.

In Charlotte try Bubba's Barbeque at 4400 Sunset Rd, right off of I77, pretty darn good eastern style (thought I am a western style fan)

FWIW, check out the March 2008 Popular Mechanics starting on page 74.
Two motorcycle riders take day trips from Charlotte in search of the best BBQ and roads.
It is a great read for day-trippers and BBQ lovers whether on 2 or 4 wheels.

Forgot about Bridges'! YES!!

I remember going there some Friday and Saturday evenings and they actually ran out of BBQ. Disappointing, but well worth a return visit.

Charlotte really aint the place for BBQ. However, Lancasters in M'ville and H'ville are ok and so is Bubba's on sunset.

My #1 BBQ joint is Parkers in Wilson though.
