NC Gov lets $500K move to fund HB2 defense | Fusion

"Nestled within the bill, however, is a provision that moves $500,000 out of the state’s Emergency Response and Disaster Relief Fund, and transferred “to the Governor’s Office” for the express purpose of funding “costs incurred from litigation related to S.L. 2016-3″—the legislative session during which HB2 was passed.
In other words, North Carolina now has half a million dollars less to fight natural disasters, and half a million more to defend legislative ones.

How did a provision requesting the transfer of half a million dollars away from disaster relief get into the legislation? NC Senate budget chairman, Republican Harry Brown, told WRAL, “The governor asked for it.”

According to the University of North Carolina School of Government, a bill sent to the governor’s desk for consideration after the state’s General Assembly has adjourned is automatically passed into law if it is neither signed, nor vetoed within 30 days. That’s the mechanism McCrory used with HB805."

I really liked McCrory when he was mayor.

If you're visiting on holiday from Europe, I'll buy the "cultural" differences when it comes to tipping. The CIAA crowd is almost exclusively folks born and raised in the Mid Atlantic and Southeast parts of the USA, however.

There are all kinds of cultures and ethnicities across American-born citizens. Evidence is easily available in our diversity of dialects of English, food, dance, music, religion, etc.

Are you confusing culture with nationality?

No, I'm certainly not. I'm saying it's a cop-out to lay it at the feet of "culture". Period.

Ethnicities are not what's under discussion. Sure there are sub-cultures here in the US, without doubt. To excuse this behavior away as "well, it's just cultural differences" is silly. Tipping for service is ubiquitous across this country - I've been to nearly every state in the nation and it is the cultural norm everywhere I've ever been.

I'm not disputing the reality that it happens - I'm saying "culture" is not a satisfactory explanation.

It's like saying "My Buddhist drinking buddies agree it was silly.".

My point is what you are saying. Even though they are gay, they don't necessarily agree with others that are also gay.

"Sometimes" is the important qualifier here. You may have missed that. Do you think blacks receive better service in general? Many servers ignore black patrons due to the reputation you mentioned.

Unlike clinging to simple minded black/white statements and always relying on a simple solution that makes me feel better, I think it's better to think things through fully. Asking "why" and "how" is important. I think that the reputation is likely embedded in some truth and there are many factors that contribute to it. I'm the only one that looked for a source outside of some slack jawed anecdote.

I recommend you start citing some sources for some of your ridiculous claims, instead of relying on a foggy memory. This time, it supported your bigoted worldview, but it isn't always that dependable.

That may be a rare occasion, but I have never seeen. Waiters do their best at their jobs generally regardless. I use to wait at a Steak and Ale when in college. I had regular bad tippers, but I never gave anyone service that was poorer that another. Maybe blacks are ignored in places line Mel's Diner in Arizona, but not around here.

There seems to be a trend where they work your ass off and leave you as little as possible. Waiters and waitresses often have to leave a percentage of their tips to the wait and bus staff. I once waited on a group from the NAACP. there were 12-15 customers. Their bill was around $300 dollars. I worked my ass off and did a good job for them. My total tips were less than $20, mostly change. Besides that, they stole a picture off of the wall. Just an example. I remember reading that a reason that they don't tip is (in their words), "We been waiting on the white many for years, they need to wait on us." How stupid is that. I would give you the source but I would have to look for it and I don't want to.

You want me to leave sources when all you do is write poorly written unsupported nonsense. What laugh. Where have you ever said something with a source or any credibility. I always do. Get real.

Are you a stoner?

The CIAA and AAC are holding their tournaments in Louisiana, Arizona, and Kentucky. All of these states support the HB2 law. My congrats to all the morons that supported Mayor Roberts, the City Council, and the Human Rights Commission for tricking you into believing that they weren't coming here because of that reason. They aren't coming here because of the lawsuit last year against the Ritz for charging a surcharge in the restaurant for the benefit of the waiters and waitresses that are historically stiffed during such events. I feel sorry for those in the hospitality services that will experience the same as servers here.

PONDER ME THIS:

How many transsexuals went in the rest room of their preference at the NBA game in China yesterday?
