The Steele Creek Residents Association meeting was last Thursday. Folks pretty much filled the Southwest Middle School cafeteria. Here's a writeup about it.

Steele Creek Residents Association Annual Meeting

The big theme of the meeting was growth. Changes are occurring rapidly in Steele Creek.

CMS is building three elementary schools in the next two years to relieve overcrowding and keep up with growth. Old farm roads need to be widened to handle increased traffic. A few projects are in the works, but funding can't keep up. The Steele Creek Division of CMPD has responsibility over more and more residents and businesses but hasn't had authorization for more officers for a while. Both Carolinas Medical Center and Presbyterian Healthcare are building new facilities, and neither is concerned about not having enough patients.

Growth can cause problems, but when people see that Steele Creek is a great place to be, they tend to move in.

Captain John Williams of Steele Creek Divison talked about the crime hot spot on Nations Ford Road, which is within Steele Creek Division but not Steele Creek itself. He said that crime should be a concern everywhere, but crime in Steele Creek is no worse than other areas in Mecklenburg County. He said there's "nothing out here to worry about that's any different from other areas in Charlotte."

Quite a few politicians were there, including Neil Mackey! That's an indication that they recognize the growing influence of the area.

I hope some of the folks from Steele Creek who frequent this board were able to come.
