I am thinking about taking a day trip with my family to Lake Lure/ Chimney Rock? Is it worth the drive? Apart from the boat ride, what else is there to do? Any good park in the area with picnic tables apart from Chimney rock? Can someone give me a good itinerary for the trip?

It is a lovely area surrounded by mountains and mountain streams and other natural beauty. There are lots of hiking opportunities and historical features. In my opinion, it is a great place and worth the drive especially if you have never been there. It is one of the areas that makes North Carolina great.

You're not likely to encounter a snake unless you step off of the trails, or go turning logs or stones over.

it's really pretty. go up to Chimney Rock and do a few trails, then have lunch somewhere!

It's not somewhere I'd spend days, but it's pretty.

Absolutely!!

Have made the drive to Lure several times and have also rented a lake front house there. Chimney Rock is great and boat ride is fun too. Throw in lunch and you've got a great day trip.

Lake Lure, in Rutherford County, is worth visiting.

Ended up going for a day trip and was great. Particularly enjoyed the Lake Lure boat ride and Chimney rock. Food was delicous at La Strada.
