Hi. My husband and I are seriously considering a move to the Huntersville, NC area. I thought we were all set but once I started researching the schools, I'm really scared! My daughter is only 3 but I'm afraid of moving to an area where the school system seems to be in such disarray. Would love to hear from anyone in the area with more information on what exactly is going on with CMS?
We're also strongly considering Huntersville, and also have been reading about the school situation there. Our realtor told us that Huntersville wants out of the Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools system and wants to become its own. Some call it "decentralizing", others call it "seceding".
But, this kind of thing is happening in metro areas all across the country--even here in Colorado. It's unfortunately become urban vs. suburban, and there are definite ethnic and racial undertones. It's sad because, as usual, the adults are imposing their fears and ignorance on the kids.
We're hoping that good sense and pragmatism win out over fear, distrust and ignorance. It would be a shame to go back 35 years ago to the dark days of separate and unequal.

Fear and ignorance? That's what you call wanting the best education for my kids. It's racist that I don't want my kids going to a school that gives them the best chance to learn. Perhaps you should talk to some of the educators at these inner city schools. Your post is hypocritical. Why move to Huntersville? Move to an area where your kids can attend an urban school
