Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which allowed Clear Channel to gobble up all the small town talk radio stations, pushing out the local guys and putting syndicated blowhards like Limbaugh and Boortz.
WBT is unusual in that it's maintained local control, but it's still gone the way of other big market AM stations away from decent local news and variety show toward more political red meat for low information voters.

Yeah but Larson's show was far removed from that. It was really good touched a lot of topics, and when something local broke he was all over it. He could be a dogged interviewer. He will be missed.
