Well, the Constitution cuts both ways! Wasn't it about a year ago that the Supreme Court (not exactly "liberal" in any sense of the word) decided it was O.K. to use "Eminent Domain" to seize someone's property for the "greater good" of the community, even if it was a private company who would be the main beneficiary behind the seizure? I'm sure if Wesley Chapel wanted to, it could seize Dr. Land's property as well as any yapping homeowner's houses in a nearby development to erect a "Walmart" if those tax revenues "dazzled" them in their "dreamy eyes" to the point it would be considered "the community's greater good"!

Interesting how Sondra Branford who lives in Stonegate and writes for the Union County Weekly used the paper to begin a smear campaign against Dr Land. After their attempts to show his property as unsafe failed, they turned to noise. The Editor Pat Higgins has no ethics in they way she aided Branford campaign. The town of Wesley Chapel will be sued for targeting Dr Land in the transparent way they did and the mayor of Wesley Chapel will soon become a community organizer.

+1 He was there first and from what I understand was family land from years ago.
He should have a special clause, all this new development growing around him - sad.

At least we can still shoot at our old family properties outside of Salisbury...for now at least.

I can just picture Ole' Jed (who barely kept his family fed) stepping off the back deck to shoot some varmints with his AK47. Oh, lets not worry about a stray bullet or ricochet. It's the my right to endanger my next door neighbor and his kids. Hey! man its my second amendment right. Don't tread on me.

Dr. Machine Gun is not issue since he is protected from by State Sport Range act, but he was the catalyst for the town council to look at the issue. Let's not forget that the towns rules and regulations evolve over time. New laws are added as necessary. This is a ten year old town whose population has quadrupled over the last 6 years.

I am not telling you anything new, government is reactive. Too many accidents at an intersection leads to a traffic light, roving packs of k9s lead to leash laws and urban density leads to firearm ordinances. Duh.

I'll give the town credit for talking their time, asking for public input, hell even Dr. Gatlingun offered his considerable expertise. You want to live in a bunker then move to Montana, if you want to live in a safe community then you need rules for everyone to live by.

Nice of you to assume that the land owner uses an Ak47 and that he is reckless enough to use his firearms as to endanger others. Just for your information, if someone has enough property to construct a proper shooting range, it can be safe enough as to not endanger others by ricochets and stray bullets.

It's his property. He was there first. If people just moved to the area and don't like what the land owner does on his property, then move.

Why did you bring this thread back to life?

I used to live on a dirt road where we could hunt, shoot guns, ride dirt bikes. When the sprawl hit our area we stopped doing those things. Why? Because it was the right thing to do.

Sorry to be a thorn in your side - I thought since there was some new news I should post it

We will just have to agree to disagree about this one I'm afraid - Dr. Land was there first. The people complaining about what he is doing lawfully on his own property remind me of the people near the Charlotte Motor Speedway who wanted to complain about the race engine noise. When something loud has existed for years it is not fair for newcomers to move in and complain about it - they just shouldn't have bought homes there in the first place. Why should Dr. Land be forced to give up his rights when he was there first? It's simple really, if you don't like train noise, you don't move near railroad tracks. If you don't like plane noise you don't move near an airport. If you don't like children you don't move next to a park or playground. People who don't like gunfire shouldn't buy near a shooting range.

Loves, I don't disagree w/ you on most of your points, I 've seen this movie before. I'm well aware of the people that move near the farm and then complain about the smell. There just comes a time when you have to say this isn't safe anymore or I'm making the people behind me feel uneasy.

I know what its like its like to have outsiders take over the rural areas you grew up on, but it doesn't make it right to fire bullets in their direction and say too bad, I was here first. Its common courtesy and common sense.

Well said loves, and in light of other recent Union County news, ya don't move next to the sewer plant if you don't want to smell the poo.

Sorry to hijack the thread, we now return you to your regularly scheduled program.
